A serious expression clouded her face. âListen. Things happen in the Triangle that no one can explain or define. But donât think everything will fix itself when the cruise is over. Any day on this ship can become your new reality. I canât tell you how it works, but I wish I could. You need to find these answers on your own.â The intensity of her green eyes burned into me. I almost recoiled to protect myself from her words. âRemember what Iâm telling you. Any changes that happen here can become your real life back home. Keep that in mind as you work on figuring things out.â
I shuddered. âI have a question for you. How come Iâm the only one noticing that things are not normal or real? Why donât my friends realize things are different? And what did I do to deserve this?â I sucked in a breath. âI mean, Iâve been a good student, I donât drink or do drugs or steal, I do what my family expects of me.â I sighed. âI know people who are so much more deserving of some curse than me. Whatâs the deal?â I hated to sound so conceited, but I wasnât a bad teenager. I wasnât a perfect angel, but I did my best.
So why me?
She looked at me. âRight there, honey, could be your problem. Really, who are you to judge? You donât know what others are going through, just like they donât know what youâre going through. Everyone has issues no matter how perfect theyâand youâthink they are.â
I held my hands up. âI never said I was perfect. I just said I was good. Iâm no angel, Doc. But Iâm not a druggie or a killer or an animal abuser. I donât kick puppies or steal junk from the mall. So whatâs the deal? This is really because of the Bermuda Triangle?â
She nodded. âLuck of the draw, Carly. Thatâs all I can tell you. And maybe, itâs a little more than luck ⦠like someone knows you need the help. As for your friends, some people change with the changes, some notice weird things, like you, and some experience nothing out of the ordinary while on this cruise. Iâm sorry, honey. I wish I could tell you more. But you have to deal. That will help.â
Was she serious? âNo, I figured Iâd just not deal and go crazy, thank you very much.â The words were sharp as I spewed them at her. I blew out a breath and slumped my shoulders. âIâm sorry again. I donât mean to be grumpy or direct it at you. Iâm just going nuts here and have no idea what to do.â
âRelax. Itâs easy and hopefully this will not be permanent. No drinking, smoking, drugs. Drink plenty of fluids. Eat right. Thatâs good advice for everyone. Otherwise, try to learn something from all youâre going through, okay? Thatâs the ticket to your way back to normalcy.â
I grimaced. âYeah. Thanks for the tips. Not sure how much theyâll help, but thanks.â
She chuckled. âGo and have fun while youâre here. But think about your life, past and present, and where youâre headed. Think about where youâve been, and what you want to do. And if you solve the mystery of the Triangle, stop in and let me know, okay? I need answers just as much as you do.â
I nodded. âYou have no idea about how this all works?â
âI know some, but thatâs all I can say. You have to figure the rest out on your own.â Knowledge lit up her eyes, so she knew more than she was telling. She couldnât throw me a bone?
âGee, thanks, Doc. I guess I have no choice, huh?â
