Terribly unhappy in his family's crowded New York City apartment, Sam Gribley runs away to the solitude-and danger-of the mountains, where he finds a side of himself he never knew.
My Side of the Mountain/On the Far Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I read this with my 4th grader for school. We enjoyed it. The part as a mother that I didn't like is how can a child be missing that long without searching for him, realistically it's unbelievable. From a reader stand point, it was a really enjoyable story. It went into depth on how he survived the wilderness for so long. Living on nuts and roots etc. It was your classic survival novel :-)
From the 9 year old ~ "It was really cool, and I really liked it because it was about a boy a little bit older than me, living in nature."
