I absolutely loved this series, see my reviews at the bottom. ~Crystal

Title: Rumors Series
Author: Rachael Brownell
Genre: Office Romance
Hosted by: Lady Amber's PR
Blurb:
Damaging Rumors - A Dixon Family Novel
My new boss should come with a warning label. He’s hotheaded, demanding, and sexy as sin. A recipe for trouble when your current relationship is on the rocks.
Determined to ignore my growing attraction to him, I keep my head down and attempt to focus on my work. Until one steamy moment in the elevator makes me reconsider everything I believe in.
When long days start turning into late nights, rumors begin to spread about our sudden romantic relationship. Everyone loves to hear the latest office gossip but no one cares if the rumors are true.
Until they’re at the center of them.
Blurb:
Devious Rumors - A Dixon Family Novel
Single.
People make it sound like it’s a bad thing. When you’ve been in a relationship that almost destroyed you, being single is a gift. You’ve been given your freedom back. You learn to love yourself again.
The moment that happens, when you finally allow yourself to feel worth of love, someone amazing walks in your life and makes you want to throw caution to the wind. And for this man… that’s exactly what I would do.
Of course, it couldn’t be easy. My past has to walk back into my life, my job, and make me question everything, especially my worth.
Rumors begin to fly around the office causing tension in my new relationship. The people who really know me know the truth, but the gossip is more interesting.
Blurb:
Delicate Rumors - A Dixon Family Novel
I fell in love with Angela the moment I laid eyes on her. Right after she almost ran me off the road. She was on fire that day, a woman on a mission, and nothing was going to stop her.
That fire burns between us now and I can’t imagine not having her in my life. Proposing felt right. Living together has been amazing. Everything is perfect… until I hear the gossip circulating around the office.
I know better than to listen to the rumors but as our wedding approaches, I can’t help but wonder if there’s any truth to them.
Blurb:
Deserving Rumors - A Dixon Family Novel
It was supposed to be one night.
After watching Ryder fawn all over his new skank, I needed more than booze to help me forget what I’d lost. What I’d thrown away.
I should have known better than to get involved with another one of the Dixon brothers clan. Their friends are like family and the Dixon family doesn’t keep secrets from each other.
So when one night turned into a week spent rolling around in the sheets, I knew I was in trouble.
Everyone would find out what I’d done. They’d be able to see through my thick facade.
Rumors will fly. Unless… maybe I can spin the truth.
Blurb:
Devastating Rumors - A Dixon Family Novel
After listening to Angela and Tyler vow to love each other unconditionally, I’ve decided it’s time to focus all my love on the one person who’s stood by my side through everything.
We were happy once and we can be happy again.
After we got married, before the emotional strain of not being able to get pregnant weighed us down, Hunter and I were living a dream.
So that’s what we’re going to do. Get remarried. Get back to the people we once were.
Easy, right?
It would be if his staff kept their opinions to themselves and their mouths shut. I’ve always dismissed the office gossip… it’s different now that I’m at the center of it.
 Blurb:
Defensive Rumors - A Dixon Family Novel
I’m a horrible person.
Who goes to a wedding with one date and leaves with another?
Me, that’s who. Hence why I’m a horrible person.
I wasn’t the only one leaving my date behind that night, though.
Maybe that’s why I’m attracted to Zane. He’s irritating to the point I want to strangle him. He refuses to apologize for being himself. He’s rude and brash and so damn sexy.
The moment I saw him I knew he was trouble. When he laid the challenge on the table, I should have run.
In a way I did. I ran straight into his arms and latched on to his lips.
It was a moment of weakness. Of lust. Of pure passion.
A moment I’m sure the rumor mill would have a field day with. The problem is, no one’s saying anything.

Damaging RumorsDamaging Rumors by Rachael Brownell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Rachael's writing style has grown over time. This book proves that! This wasn't her normal clean YA romance. This is so much more, while it's still clearly her writing it's for the older crowd, new adults instead of teens or what have you. Rumors is my favorite of hers so far. But then again it seems every new one becomes my favorite. If you haven't read anything by Rachael yet, what are you waiting for?

Justine, what can I say. Love can change people. I didn't really care for her in the first book, but she matured in this one. The rumor was something else, but they always are aren't they? I recommend this series for sure!

Freaking AMAZING! I missed all the wedding planning hassle. We had a small courthouse wedding but this book was very detailed in the wedding planning stress. Good and bad. Ang and Ty's bond is strong, they try to let nothing get in the way of their happiness. Things at work are changing, I can't wait to see what happens next!

What to even say? Rachael outdid herself again with this one. Megan, gosh I hated her. But rumors and only getting one side of things will do that won't they? As the mother of Ryder's daughter we knew she would be around, but wow this tops it.

Bri, oh goodness how I could relate to her in so many ways. It was heartbreaking.

Even thought these two have been together for almost a decade they are not immune to the rumors flying around the office. Is their love strong enough to make it?

This can be read as a stand alone, but I suggest reading the series in order to get to know the other family members.

oooooh what an ending!

This is the last book in the Rumors series, while it can be read as a standalone, I do not suggest it.
Ally and Zane, wow. The growth of the characters in this story was amazing. I don't know who I disliked more, Megan or Ally, but once their stories were told they became more understandable. The characters are so real. I am sad to see the series end!

What Lurks Below is a smartly written dystopian novel from Jordan Thompson.
Picture

Title: What Lurks Below
Author: Jordan Thompson
Publisher: Monster Ivy publishing
Release Date: April 7. 2020

At Colony, no one knows where the children came from. No one talks about how they were babies when they were ripped from their parents to be raised in the Tin Can.

No one knows, that is, except Amelia. At thirteen, Amelia remembers a mother who loved her. She remembers fresh peaches and ice cream—not the calorically rationed food that tastes like stagnant swamp water and chemicals.

Desperate to hold on to her memories, Amelia shares her past with her younger brother, Alex. She teaches him about the reality of The Garden and its power to provide safety and love.

Soon, Alex learns that life at Colony is more dangerous than he thought. He spies an enormous, black ... something ... lurking in the water, while no one seems to notice it at all.

Fear of the creature has Alex thrashing his sheets in bed. His marks drop, and Council insists on Amelia telling them what is wrong. Amelia tries to keep up appearances, but Council refuses to believe her and locks her up.

If Amelia isn’t willing to forgo the love she felt and the life she had back Then, Council will throw her in the water to meet whatever it is that lurks below the Tin Can.

For fans of The Giver, this dystopian-charged fantasy will show readers the valiance of holding on to one’s beliefs and the value of true sibling love.

Lynn's 4 Star Review

The blurb fascinated me but it took me a bit to really get into the story itself. Because the children in the Colony do not interact and have idle chit chat like normal kids do, there is not a lot of dialogue in the first part of the book. The reader sees everything through Amelia's eyes and learns of the Before from the stories she tells her little brother Alex from under her bed.

However, Chapter 21 brought it all together and left me wanting to go back to reread and see if I could find additional clues. I blew threw the remaining chapters.

The shadows and the Bewilder in the forest are beautifully written and one of my favorite parts of the story. I love Amelia's rebellious nature. She is a hauntingly broken character with a fierce loyalty to Alex.

What Lurks Below is a smartly written dystopian.
Crystal's 4 Star Review

There were so many layers to this book. There is no wrong interpretation. The writing is phenomenal. The relationship between Amelia and Alex is tight. There were so many twists and little hints. My mind is blown. For being a Middle Grade book of sorts it kept my interest right to the end.

I recommend this to anyone 10 and up!

Holy smokes! Melanie Gilbert saved the best for last. Deal was non stop action. The plot twist was a heck of a ride. You won't see it coming but it will leave you on the edge of your seat. I found myself with bated breath through most of the story. Bravo. Melanie!

What Rachel Did
By Kelly Martin
Published by Monster Ivy Publishing
Genre: Middle Grade Horror

Twenty years ago, Mosley Manor was left abandoned. The haunted house of White's Chapel, Tennessee, has become the local dare—the place kids sneak to see if they are brave enough to go inside. Ava isn't scared of Mosley Manor in the slightest. She believes in facts.

According to her, anyone who is scared of Mosley Manor should be ashamed. Unless that person is her best friend, Bradley. He gets a free pass because he's, well, he's been terrified of the house as long as Ava has known him. In fact, he was originally the person who told her about the house and all the ghosts inside.

Unfortunately for Ava, her parents decide to buy their first house (YAY!), and it ends up being Mosley Manor (no...). Ava isn't afraid of the place, just not happy about leaving her old rental house next to her BFF. It's also not wonderful that it's the only thing anyone at school wants to talk about.

Ava's brother starts acting even weirder than normal, Mama and Daddy never used to fight like this, and by golly, those upstairs doors have minds of their own.

Ava may not believe in ghosts, but they certainly believe in her.

Interview with Gayle Carline

1. Murder Bytes is your fifth Peri Minneopa mystery. What can you tell us about Peri, and how does this book continue the traditions established by the other novels in the series?

“In the last book, A More Deadly Union, Peri was left traumatized after solving the case. In the latest story, she just wants to stop investigating crime, settle down, and marry her longtime boyfriend. Unfortunately, that’s not the way her life works. Her brother needs her help, to prove he did not commit murder. She is reluctant to help him, both because she is still feeling the trauma of the last case and because her brother does not want any kind of relationship with her—he is only using her to get out of trouble. To me, it is a classic question of the thickness of blood and water, and how much you are willing to go to bat for ‘that relative.’”

2. In Murder Bytes, Peri re-opens her practice to help her estranged brother. What keeps Peri from simply referring him to another qualified detective?
“At the end of the day, Dev is her big brother. She wants to believe that he considers her his little sister, that someday, somehow, he will realize his familial love for her. There’s a piece of advice, to ‘raise the child you have and not the one you want.’ In Peri’s case, she wants the brother who wants to be close to her, and has a hard time accepting the brother that he is.”

3. Peri’s boyfriend, Detective Skip Carlton, is now her official fiancé. They have bought a home together, and are selling their houses. Because Peri’s house sold and Skip’s is still on the market, she is living in the new place while it’s being remodeled. How is this affecting their relationship?

“The continual stream of workers and noise in their house has Peri’s stress dialed up to 11, on top of her PTSD. It creates conflict for them, in that he wants to defer remodeling decisions to her, so that she will be happy, and she would like him more involved, to take the pressure off. In addition, he wants to help her with her brother’s problem, but would like her to just sit on the sidelines and watch—something she’s never been good at.”

4. There are a number of familiar characters in Murder Bytes that readers will recognize from the earlier novels in the series. Who are your personal favorites, and what happens to them in this particular story?

“I like them all, for individual reasons. Blanche is always Peri’s rock as her BFF, and I appreciate her good advice. I admire Police Chief Fletcher—he is the right man for the job. Of course, Benny Needles will always be my favorite. In this book, he gets his own chapters, and even has a ‘special friend.’ He and Peri have a lot of warm, connecting moments, and I’m very pleased with his growth.”

5. Murder Bytes takes place in Southern California, in the Orange County area. How integral is this setting to the Peri Minneopa mysteries, and why did you place the series in this environment?

“When I started this series, I wanted a small town feel, but not so small that I wouldn’t kill off all the residents! They say to write what you know, and I know Southern California. My hometown of Placentia has a very small-town feel, even though it is locked into the vast Orange County. That made it perfect—nonresidents are constantly coming in and out of town, giving my stories lots of victims. Plus, I’m very proud to live in Placentia (we sometimes call it P-Town). I might as well do my part to put it on the map.”

6. Are you working on another Peri Minneopa mystery? If so, what can you tell us about it?

“I am advertising this as the fifth and final installment of Peri Minneopa Mysteries. I think I’ve taken her to a place where the next book would be such a completely different flavor, it will have to be a new series of mysteries. Don’t worry—I’ll start writing them! In the meantime, I have a sequel to my romantic suspense, Murder on the Hoof, to write.”

MEET THE AUTHOR

Picture

Gayle Carline is a typical Californian, meaning that she was born somewhere else. She moved to Orange County from Illinois in 1978, and landed in Placentia a few years later.

Her husband, Dale, bought her a laptop for Christmas in 1999 because she wanted to write. A year after that, he gave her horseback riding lessons. When she bought her first horse, she finally started writing.

Gayle began writing journalistic pieces for California Riding Magazine, then quickly added "humor columnist" to her resume with a weekly column in her local newspaper, the Placentia News-Times. What she really wanted to do was write mysteries, however, so in 2009 she crossed that off her list with the first of her Peri Minneopa mysteries.

Never at a loss for words or stories, she will continue to write as long as the ideas keep popping into her head. In her spare time, Gayle likes to sit down with friends and laugh over a glass of wine. And maybe plan a little murder and mayhem for the next novel.

Welcome to Holiday Hills, where the coffee’s fresh and there’s magic in the air…

I have a perfect life. I recently rented the most adorable little apartment on top of my favorite bookstore coffee shop on Main Street in Holiday Hills, the charmingest of charming small southern towns. I spend my days ghostwriting a cozy mystery series for a well-known author, and maybe just a minute or two crushing on the town’s police chief. But of course, I’d never let that cat out of the bag. I'm still dealing with my recent divorce, and no matter what my bestie says, I'm so not ready for anything in the romance department.

Speaking of cats, my little Burmese, Cooper, follows me around like he’s my guard dog. Thankfully, Holiday Hills is animal friendly. Everyone’s got a cat or dog, and that crazy old woman on the back end of town has the funniest talking parrot.

Oh, that crazy old woman, she’s a local celebrity, which can be a lot of trouble for her daughter. How do I know? Because that’s me. I’m the crazy old woman’s daughter.

The good news is everyone loves my mother, including me. The bad news is she recently died, and when she did, she opened up a whole new world for me, one I’d always thought was fictional. The magical world.

Now I have witchy powers, a talking cat, and a knack for finding dead bodies in my quaint little town.

Ones that don’t die on accident.

My name is Abby Odell and I’m a witch.

Who knew? I sure didn’t. Thanks for that, Mom.

There's a New Witch in Town is the first book in the Holiday Hills Witch Cozy Mystery series by bestselling author Carolyn Ridder Aspenson.

Even though I've always wanted to be a writer, I also wanted to support myself, so instead of following that dream, I opted to get a job with a regular paycheck.

When my mother died in 2009, and then I lost my father less than a year later, I decided to take the leap. I wanted to find a way to honor my parents, to keep their memories alive, and I did that with my first book, Unfinished Business.

That book went to number one all over Amazon and Barnes and Noble, and sat happily in the top one hundred books sold in each for over a week.

I received hundreds of emails from people who felt that little semi-mystery gave them hope, that it made them find comfort when they needed it most, and that they wished they had a friend like Mel.

I was hooked.

I don't write for the money (though the money is nice sometimes). I write for those emails, and knowing I'm doing what I love, finally. If my writing takes people away from their worries for even a short period of time, I'm a lucky gal.

I hope my parents can read in Heaven.

Yet, her companion is chosen wisely. Now, Rafnor, a tolerant soldier sent by the Human monarchs, must teach her all things combat. But time is limited, and her sarcastic defenses try even his patience.
Amidst political strife with the Elves and all-out war with the Orcs, they must come together to prevent the merciless destruction of all three realms…Even as the Elven royals plot to tear them apart to secure an Elven heir to the Soul Bearer blood.

As an active nerd, I enjoy a lot of hobbies, archery, shower-singing, and gaming included. I’ve been an introvert from birth, so most of my hobbies are solitary. I specialize in sarcasm, and since I typically have a flat affect and an expressionless face, it slips past people. A lot. Yet, to me, it always feels like a drunken pirate has fallen out of my mouth, only to go cursing and bumbling about. When I write though, words come easily. So, in a world constantly trying to numb us, I want to write stories that make people feel something.
