The Bionics ~ Alicia Michaels

My introduction to the amazing Alicia Michaels was by reading the novella, The Bionics.  While not my typical read, I loved the story and the characters and was hooked.  Now instead of several novellas, Alicia has combined them into 2 full length novels.  You still get the POV from Blythe, Dax and Gage like before.  There is even some bonus content and insight for those who previously read the novellas.  Novel 1, The Bionics, releases February 10th and The Resistance, Novel 2,  on March 10th.

The Bionics
The Bionics Novel Book 1
By Alicia Michaels

Published February 10, 2015
Publisher:  Crimson Tree Publishing

All Blythe Sol ever wanted was to be a normal girl. Yet, her dreams of following in her father’s footsteps by joining the military after graduation are crushed when nuclear war comes to the United States in the year 4006. Tens of thousands are killed in a series of attacks on many major cities, while thousands more are left injured from the devastation of the blasts, or terminally ill from the effects of radiation.

When the government offers the sick and injured a second chance as part of the Restoration Project, how could they refuse? Hoping to put her life back together after the blasts take both her arm and her eye, Blythe enrolls in the program filled with hope. She never expects that the bionic additions will change her life so drastically. When it is discovered that those outfitted with the robotic parts have become enhanced beyond the limits of ordinary human ability, normal can never exist for her again.

The Bionics become targets of the government, as fear of them spreads across the nation, further enflamed by media propaganda and political conspiracy. Forced to go into hiding or face execution, society’s outcasts band together to form the Restoration Resistance—an underground rebellion which Blythe becomes a part of in order to survive. She could never imagine that joining them would thrust her at the forefront of an imminent revolution, or that it would put her in a confusing tug-of-war between two of her fellow soldiers—Gage Bronson, the mysterious new addition to the Resistance, and Dax Janner, her best friend. Even though Gage is rapidly capturing her heart, she is forced to face the possibility that her feelings for Dax might just go beyond friendship. However, with impending war and the threat of death hanging over her head, Blythe hardly has time to worry about anything as trivial as a love life...

Lynn's 5 Star Review

In Book 1 of the series, the reader is introduced to the Resistance. A group of Bionics that strive to be accepted and live in a world that shuns them. The main character, Blythe, is well developed. You feel her struggles and the reader connects to her story. Blythe saw her family gunned down because they refused to turn her over to the Military Police to be destroyed. She fights the demons inside her daily and with the help of her friend, Dax, she copes. Her salvation is in finding and rescuing others like her.

Since this book includes multiple POVs the reader also get view point of Dax. We get his shady back story and well as a gruff look at the Resistance and their plan to rescue the hostages and other Bionics by storming the Capital. The romance that he wants between himself and Blythe is explored. Don’t be fooled. This is no sappy love story. The action and suspense grips all pages.

Lastly, we get the POV of Gage who also becomes a love interest for Blythe. Gage, Dax, Blythe, the Professor, and other members of the Resistance stage a rescue for Olivia and other Bionics from the prison in Washington D.C. Of course dangers and unexpected chaos arises. The team gets separated and receives aid from a very unlikely source, The Rejects. This doesn’t come without a price. Secrets are revealed and lives are changed forever.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Alicia Michaels and her Bionics Series. These stories play out in my head like a television series. Mrs. Michael’s vivid descriptions of the post bombed U.S. and the part human, part machine Bionics comes alive in my imagination. I am so glad I gave this series a shot. I haven’t been able to put it down.
