“I need my job,” she finally whispers.

“That’s the last thing that should be on your mind,” I husk, lowering myself at her feet. “Is that what’s kept you from coming back?” I ask, pulling a nod from her, the feel of her fingers on my shoulder as she steadies herself lighting my skin on fire.
