Review

There is a lot going down at Camp Lenape.

Even though this is only a MG/YA book, I felt it needed more depth & character definition. But it still wasn’t a bad story, and it did keep my interest.

Part mystery, part fun, tiny part romance. Camp Lenape is told from two POVs, Marcus & Alissa. That coupled with the dual narrators really added to the story.

When Marcus’ sister goes missing, he and Alissa stumble on a few deadly secrets at the camp. It’s not just another day camp in Camp Lenape.

The narration is also done with two narrators, Brittany Goodwin and James David West. Both did a great job bringing the story to life.

Butler weaves multiple genres together seamlessly in her Mothman Mysteries series. The fast-paced YA story twists supernatural beings with sci-fi technology and a dash of romance. Wrong Side of the Grave is a great start to the series.

Narrator James Fouhey does a nice job of bringing Eric Jansen and the other characters to life.

Audiobook Review
Overall  5 Stars
Story  5 Stars
Performance  5 Stars

The Detective Kay Hunter Series is hands down one of my absolute favorites.  I have completed the entire series via audiobooks. The narrator Alison Campbell is brilliant. She has brought to life each of these stories for me. She lends a unique voice to each character and the portrayal is congruent in every book.

Author Rachel Amphlett touches on a few dark issues with the story but she handled it very well. I devoured Turn to Dust just as I have all the previous books. Detective Hunter is a strong female lead character who is tenacious, strong, and supportive. I love her interactions with her husband. A highlight in each book is to see what animal he will be treating at home.
About the Author: Rachel Amphlett
Before turning to writing, Rachel Amphlett played guitar in bands, worked as a TV and film extra, dabbled in radio as a presenter and freelance producer for the BBC, and worked in publishing as a sub-editor and editorial assistant.

She now wields a pen instead of a plectrum and writes crime fiction and spy novels, including the Dan Taylor espionage novels and the Detective Kay Hunter series.

Originally from the UK and currently based in Brisbane, Australia, Rachel cites her writing influences as Michael Connelly, Lee Child, and Robert Ludlum. She’s also a huge fan of Peter James, Val McDermid, Robert Crais, Stuart MacBride, and many more.

She’s a member of International Thriller Writers and the Crime Writers Association, with the Italian foreign rights for her debut novel, White Gold sold to Fanucci Editore's TIMECrime imprint, and the first four books in the Dan Taylor espionage series contracted to Germany’s Luzifer Verlag.

A haunted mage. A weapon lost. Sometimes, the dead return...
To save a life, Zola must find an anchor to transfer a blood knot of untold power, and she knows exactly who to turn to. An old ally, Ward, is gifted in the ancient arts and may hold the key to Vesik’s salvation.
With his team by his side, Ward embarks on a quest through the outskirts of The Golden City, which is rife with Unseelie Fae and Irontouched alike. Their only hope is a dangerous meeting with a highly trained cadre - who balance their loyalties on a knife’s edge.
As they embark on their path of knowledge and terror, tables take a jarring turn when a long lost apprentice, believed to be claimed by the darkness, makes a ghoulish return. The time for peace is near the end, and Ward must trust in those who rarely trust themselves in order to fulfill his mission.

I love that this series literally picks on the next page from the previous one. The war rages on while Zola and crew try to find another piece of the puzzle to create a new anchor for Sam and Vicki. In this installment, we focus on Ward and met his long lost apprentice, Heather.

The world building and layers make this an epic series. While I love delving deeper into the many characters, the suspense of Damien's predicament is killing me!

Eric Moon is a fantastic narrator for this series. It amazes me who she can keep all the individual accents and nuances for each voice she lends to the story.

A crashed wedding. A scorned vampire. A necromancer's last hope...Damian Vesik is no hero. At least, not according to the magical community that turns a blind eye to his battles against evil. So he chalks it up as one more thankless mission when he’s forced to stop his vampire sister from murdering her ex’s entire bridal party…

Infiltrating the ceremony to protect the innocent, Damian uncovers something more sinister than a massacre. With the help of his berserker fairy friend, he'll need to prevent an unholy union between ancient demons and the walking dead.

Damian has one chance to stop his sister and ruin the wedding before one hell of an afterparty dooms the world.

Days Gone Bad is the first book in the savagely funny Vesik urban fantasy series. If you like gritty action, undead enemies, and plenty of snark, then you’ll love Eric R. Asher’s heart-stopping tale.

The upheaval in my life began the moment a prince stumbled into my house and asked me to read his fortune. Any other night, I might have made an excuse to get him to leave, but this was no normal visit. My fingers prickled to touch him. So, I granted his request by handing him a single wishbone. When he snapped it, the wish … bled.

Hearing me suck in a shocked breath, he asked what it meant. Such an ominous omen could only mean one thing: his death was imminent. Fate revealed that he wouldn’t die of natural causes. Someone wanted him dead. Stunned by the revelation, the man I now knew as Prince Tauren disappeared into a night I feared he wouldn’t survive. The following day, I received an invitation to the castle. While it seemed the prince believed I could intervene and uncover who was plotting his death, his motives didn’t stop there. I was being summoned to join twelve other women in vying for the opportunity to be his wife and future queen.

Going could mean jeopardizing my plans to reclaim my heritage and resurrect the House of Fate. But staying would guarantee Tauren’s death, and the blood of his wish would be on my hands.

Review

Wow! Just wow! Hello book hangover. I haven't had one of those in a long time. Casey Bond never fails to deliver the BEST stories. When Wishes Bleed is phenomenal.  The narrator, Aleksi Graves, is spectacular in her rendition of the tale. I haven't been this wrapped up in a story in a long time. I wanted to jump to the end to see how it was all to play out. I refrained, but barely!

I felt this story in my bones. Sable as Fate was extraordinary. Bond never fails to unleash a unique and magical story.

Lynn's Review

COME BACK TO THE SWAMP reminded me of a spooky, intriguing episode of the Twilight Zone. The novella is bizarre and twisted, but with a message - beware of your ecological footprint. While not preachy, the author makes known her ecological views as she seamlessly weaves science and magic together. I love the supernatural aspect of the story. Adding a voice to the swamp was an interesting and thought provoking point of view. I will certainly think twice before spraying Roundup on my weeds and will be looking over my shoulder for a forest woman to appear and yell at me.

Chelsea Stephens did a spectacular job of being the voice of the swamp and truly bringing this book to life. I previously read the book but having experienced the audio version was amazing.

The Shrike and The Shadows is a dark and twisted take on the Hansel and Gretal fairytle. I love this retelling! The author delivered a fast paced thrill ride that left me on the edge of my seat.

A Word from Chantal Gadoury

Music is an important part of the process in writing for me. I’ve always been the sort of person who thrives off of the music they listen to, in any given situation. Road Trip? I have a playlist for that. A love letter? You betcha, I have a CD Mix I want you to listen to. Writing a novel, let me share with you my spotify playlist I’ve specifically designed for it!

When A.M Wright and I started to write “The Shrike & the Shadows,” I started a score playlist to listen to - to capture the atmosphere I imagined in our novel. For me, it was so important to be in the right mind-frame to write our dark fairytale retelling. All of it was inspired by the song A.M Wright originally shared with me, when we began to plan out our story:

In the Woods Somewhere: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMk-Nb_viR8
This song played a major role in our writing, and inspired much of the story, the woods, and our characters.

Take a listen to my personal “Shrike & the Shadows” playlist that I listened to as I wrote. This playlist is mostly all classical/score music - as I avoid listening to music with words when writing. When I write, scenes almost unfold in my mind like a movie; so added dialogue can at times, kill the situation.

About the Narrator: Ryan Haugen

Ryan Haugen tried to write for a long time. He has nothing to show for it - in fact this is the first time he’s sat down to write since college.
Actually, he isn’t even sitting right now. He’s standing, and coming to grips with how writing has always caused him to deceive himself. So, that honest work tied to fiction would ever materialize shocks even him.
As a narrator, Ryan has no formal qualifications or training.
As a producer, he has an above-average grasp of Windows 10 and Audacity.
As a purveyor of twist endings, he would have you know he quit his day job to pursue narration full time in his home studio after 7 months of part-time narration, and 15 books narrated.
Ever engaged, passionate, and consumptive of all forms of media, Ryan floats in bewildered contentment at the notion anyone would want to listen to him speak for dozens of hours, but hopes you enjoy his youthful performances in the tales he tells, and that by now, you truly believe he is a better storyteller than he is writer."

About the Narrator: Kimberly M. Wetherell

In Kimberly’s storied 30-year career in the Arts, she has been an actor, an opera and film director/producer, a published essayist, founder and host of several NYC reading series, and, on a brief hiatus from ‘the biz’, a professional boozy baker and restauranteur. Her bright, youthful sound, coupled with her wide-ranging and varied life experiences, brings nuance and depth to her compelling audiobook narration.

Review

The cover immediately drew me to this story. Prudence the pig completely steals the show anytime she is mentioned. However, aside from those moments, the storyline was long and drawn out. I felt that the author could have cut several chapters from the story. The arrest of the "bad guy" was done without any fanfare. The heart of the plot is good and I do plan to check out additional stories from this author. Why? Because there is a diverse and fun cast of characters. Niles and Tom are delightful in their doting on Scarlett. And hello, a pig!

Narrator Kimberly M. Wetherell was brilliant. She lent a great voice to each character.

Audiobook Review

The Sinners was an interesting look at a secret society of dark magic.  I found the premise to the story intriguing. And that shocking ending left me dying for more!

Narrators Cindy Kay and Jason Clarke were excellent at bringing the story to life. The author Daniele Lanzarotta created a diverse and complicated cast of players.  I have a love/hate relationship with them all. I didn't know what to expect going into the story but Lanzarotta definitely snagged herself a new fan! ~ Lynn
