I was brought up in Manchester and I am now living in the beautiful Scottish borders with my three children.

I have enjoyed writing my story as I had a pretty hard upbringing and have suffered like everyone does over the years in different situations, but everyone has a story to tell. I just hope my story can help someone out there who is, or has been through the same sorts of situations as myself.

D. Love's Life& Death Saga ~ Review

I had the pleasure of meeting the amazingly talented Derinda Love at the Believe Hope Live author signing she hosted in 2014. I was in awe of her skill to pull together an event of that magnitude. Derinda totally made my entire year that day. She knew me! She recognized my name and 2 Girls & A Book. I was 6 months in to the whole blogging gig and learning as I went so to have Derinda acknowledge me was AH-MAZING. I bet she has no idea what that meant to me.

Despite loving Derinda as a person, sadly I had never read any of her books. In chatting with her recently she pointed out that she had a paranormal series. Hold the phone...I love paranormal. I had to have it. Trust me when I tell you, it's a great series! It has something for everyone, including the fellas. Yes, there is romance but its not the main theme of the story. The action, oh my the action. And everything you think you know after Book 1 will be twisted and turned in Book 2. Exciting right?

I needed a great read so I could check out of my own reality for a bit and D. Love’s A Breath of Death gave me just that. Paranormal is my favorite genre and this series is Kick A** Paranormal.

I was immediately all wrapped up in Kate’s story. She intrigued me. The nightmares from her past hurt my soul. I knew this chick was gonna be tough and Kate did not disappoint.

I love lots of action but one of the things that stood out in this book was the witty banter between Price and Kate. It definitely lightened things up and added a good dose of humor.

A Breath of Death is filled with twists and turns and OMG moments on every page. I could not put it down. In fact, I read it in one day! And of course I grabbed Book 2, A Breath of Life. I cannot wait to see how this story ends.

After finally finding his soul mate, everything is instantly ripped away. Now Price must embark in a dangerous journey in order to save his other half, Kate.

The arduous and unyielding obstacles that Price must face in effort to reclaim her will test his strength and determination, but can he find his way or will finding Kate be too great of a challenge for the both?

She may be death, but to him, she is a breath of life.

Wow. Book 2, A Breath of Life, picks right up where Book 1, A Breath of Death, left off. It was nonstop action from page one. No one is who or what they seem to be. There are no “aha moments,” only loud gasps of shock and awe. With all the twists and turns I found it impossible to put this book down. I am hanging in limbo until the release of Book 3.

This book!!! There is so much in this epic and terrible tale! In possibly the worst situation you could ever imagine children in, and being treated so badly I wanted to crawl into this book and exact some vengeance! The world has finally destroyed the ozone layer, and it now depends on the trees made at the treemaker factory, where these precious children are slaves and treated so cruel. Just when you think it can’t get worse, it does. But with that being said, there are so many beautiful and lovely moments too! This author holds nothing back and tells it without apology! People are sick, and sick people are more cruel than I can even fathom, and we see that here. But is there light at the end of this dark tunnel? Perhaps, but you will have to read this book of awesomesauce to find out. I have not been this sucked into a book in a long time, I may have even run into a wall with my kindle in my face because I just couldn’t put it down. But this book is not for the faint of heart, a post apoc dystopia that will leave you reeling! And wanting more!!

Author Interview
What inspired this story?
On October 24, 2013, the Treemakers came to be during a perfect storm of various muses. My children and I lived in a bad neighborhood near these gigantic powerline towers, and I’d always think how they looked like mechanical trees. We had just ended another terrible summer (we live in Texas) where the kids stayed inside to play most days (bad neighborhood, plus heat) so the idea started brewing that summer. These orphan kids were in my head, and they were responsible for building these mechanical trees. They couldn’t go outside because of the bad air and the heat. The world was destroyed. Their lives were full of misery and despair, but they had each other, and their love for one another would pull them through….
In my house during that time we hung pictures of different paradises everywhere, to remind us that there was a better life somewhere, waiting for us. We’d get there one day, but first we had to weather the storm, push through the darkness of poverty and other obstacles to find the light. This was the emotional inspiration for the story, I think.
As far as the characters directly: my Nana was an orphan who was a mother figure to her twin baby sisters, and later she became a foster parent at the orphanage she grew up in. We’d go visit on Thanksgiving and I remember being fascinated with these orphan girls, inspired and in awe of my Nana’s ability to love so much, to feed and care for 10-20 girls on a daily basis, and do so with grace, strength, and nurturing.
And the treemakers were born….

Are any of the characters based on people you know?
As with all of my characters, they just kind of hop into my head and say “okay, it’s my turn now.” So far I’ve only based one character off of an actual person, but I can’t tell you who it is because it’s a character from book two, which you’ve yet to read. ;-)
I think my characters are a montage of everyone I’ve ever met in my life. Different qualities, traits, quirks, looks, habits, etc., originated from someone, somewhere in my life, but they flesh into their very own special beings in my head, becoming their own unique selves.

What was the hardest scene for you to write?
The dungeon scene. Omg that one was rough. I bawled my eyes out. And there was one more toward the end, too, but #Nospoilers! Lol (For those who’ve yet to read it)

Can I punch Jax in the face?
I am very curious to see how you feel about Jax after you read book two…. ;)

Do you have any other books in your mind for future writing projects?
Unless there is some sort of miraculous anti-aging serum to keep me alive until about 120 years of age, I won’t ever write all the stories I want to write. *sobs*
Currently, I’ve got about 15 works in progress (folders waiting for my attention on my computer) and I get new story ideas all the time. My stories span a ton of sub-genres, YA/NA/Adult, but are generally fantasy/speculative. I’m hoping once my toddler gets in school I’ll have more time to write and can get more than a book a year done, but we’ll see. There’s still plenty more where the Treemakers came from though, for sure. There are still two more books in that series! One of which releases on December 3rd. :)

I am literally awe struck! This book is so dark and lovely and scary and wonderful! I absolutely loved the Treemakers and couldn't wait to get my hands on Soultakers, with fear in my heart for what more these beautiful characters were going to have to experience. And can I just say...Christina is a genius, a dark and scary genius! I had so many guesses of where this book would take them, and I couldn't have been more wrong. Intense! That is the best word I can think of to describe it. So much sadness filled with hope and the fight to never give up. I laughed, not often, but I did, I read wide eyed with a rock in my tummy, I cried...more than a few times, and I had moments of pure joy and happiness laced with more hope. Absolutely wonderful, but now I sit here waiting for book 3 in anticipation of what is to come next, and wondering if these poor souls will ever get their happily ever after!
