EL-204

by Lucian Barnes

Genre: Horror

Release Date: October 24, 2014

For Jason Lambert, a prominent M.I.T. geneticist, fear of natural death has become a thing of distant memories. His latest concoction has, in a sense, increased his longevity and made him nearly immortal.

Over the past one hundred years, the technological advances of medical science have rendered the deadliest diseases of the twentieth century insignificant. Cancer, heart disease, and AIDS are no longer a death sentence. Serums have been developed to eradicate the problematic cells and their growth.

When he meets a beautiful woman, his world is turned upside down. Add to this the government's sudden interest in his research, and things begin to spiral out of control. We all know what happens when the military gets involved. Greed takes over, and ethics are pushed to their boundaries. Will Jason be able to juggle his responsibilities without compromising his integrity, or will his experiments lead to the evolution of a new breed of monster?

I spent most of my youth in rural Ohio and began writing stories at an early age. Many of these early attempts at story-telling were inspired by mysteries, such as those found in the old Hardy Boys books and the cartoon antics of Scooby Doo. As I entered my teenage years I began to drift away from writing stories, instead picking up my pencil to compose lyrics for heavy metal songs because my new dream was to become a musician. That vision remained hopeful for many years after my high school graduation, but like most dreams of this nature it died out as I became older.

After working several menial jobs through the years that followed, my thoughts again began to turn toward writing books. Inspired by my favorite author, Stephen King, I took an online creative writing course and slowly began to develop my skills. In late 2010 I was given a violent shove, both by the job market (which was horrible to say the least, and still is) and by the persistent encouragement of close friends, to pick up my pen and begin writing again.

In early 2012, I gave birth (that's almost what it felt like) to my very first published book, Desolace. Finally having a completed novel in my hand was the best feeling in the world for me, giving me a sense of accomplishment I had waited a lifetime for. Things have grown easier for me with each book I have published. Since the initial release of Desolace, I have released four more novels in the series. My latest work is a futuristic horror book titled, EL-204.

"They call me crazy, but they can't see what I see."

Ren is just an ordinary, average girl. Her mother tried to kill her when she was six and then killed herself instead. Her father hid her away in a mental hospital and forgot about her. Oh, and she can see ghosts.

Okay, maybe not so ordinary after all.

Interview with Amy Richie

Where did the inspiration for the Speak No Evil Trilogy come from?

I’ve always wanted to write a story with ghosts and the “Brothers” and “Sisters” are loosely inspired by some Greek mythology, which has always interested me too. As a general rule, I never watch scary shows, but my imagination still likes them!

If you had to compare it another book or movie what would it be?
I guess I would say Gothika. It’s an older ghost movie that I actually watched and I loved the whole concept of being put in a mental hospital even though you were telling the truth.

If you saw a ghost what would you do? Freak out or try to communicate.

I would freak out, hands down. I would be too scared to try and communicate. But for the record, I don’t actually believe in ghosts. At least not the kind that used to be people!!

Review
If you are looking for a good scare this Halloween, look no further than Amy Richie's Speak No Evil Trilogy.  These tale is spine tingling, bone chilling, goose bumped riddled, too afraid to come out from the covers good.  Speak no Evil is The Sixth Sense meets The Grudge.  Your heart will pound,  You will pull up the sheets. You will question whether that sudden chill you feel is just a draft or if the Cursed are coming for you.

BLURB

Chicago is in ruins. True evil has been unleashed upon the world, but no one seems to believe…

Milo and Killian attempt to free themselves from the madness David Wormwood left behind, but they quickly find themselves searching for the answer to an unknown riddle, something that has to do with a cult and the saying, “In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king.”

The hunter is back from hell with the love of his life Laura, but has he really escaped the clutches of the demonic forces he sabotaged? He’ll find out somewhere in the bayous of Louisiana and inside the pages of a legendary book.

Abigail Williams has finally found the power she sought, but she doesn’t understand. Why doesn’t she feel good? Why doesn’t she feel immortal? And why does she keep pondering the question: Will the Pendulum swing towards who is right, or who is left?

John Dawson Jackson returns to the first book of his career with new stories, new characters, and plenty of bloodshed. If you were a fan of The Relics, prepare to be amazed!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Born in a ditch beside a busy highway, John Dawson Jackson never knew his parents. Taken in by wealthy philanthropists Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Elmo Jackson, he was trained from the age of two in classical piano. A horrible accident left his arm damaged, ending his dream before it began. He was forced to undertake control of his adopted father's oil business, a company that allowed him to travel the globe and explore the far reaches of civilization. As he studied the ancient carvings of the Mesopotamians, he realized just how much of our history has been covered up by powerful people. These findings have been collected into his new novel The Relics 2. Or maybe that's a lie...maybe this is true... John Dawson Jackson is an independent author based out of the Knoxville, TN area who has a broad spectrum of interests. Predominantly, his novels integrate the genres of fantasy, history, and horror with intriguing mind bending qualities. All of his works are based in the supernatural and exist within the same universe--a sometimes frightening, but always exhilarating place where Jackson enjoys playing with the interconnectivity of what is real, myth, and rumor. His most recent novel, The Relics 2, charts a path through history, blending both fact and fiction as ancient objects of power shape lives and bring together some of the most interesting and terrifying characters the world has ever seen as they realize their collective destinies.

Author Interview

TVS was completed earlier this year.  How do you feel about it ending?
Ending the series was bittersweet for me, for several reasons.  Honestly, I didn’t want to say goodbye to any of my characters. The series may have ended but if readers paid attention to book 3, they’d see that I ended the book with, ‘To be continued’. It leaves my plans for the series continuation very open for the fans.

Will we see anything further from Brylee and Ephraim?
Yes! I’m happy to announce that there will be a spin-off series releasing sometime in the next year. The Shadows Trilogy which will consist of three full length books will follow Brylee as an adult. She will be following the path set out for her. There are many questions still about why she can see the dead, and I’m happy to answer them all in these books.  Ephraim will be in the books as well.
 I’m also bringing back a few fan favorites from one of my other series. I won’t say who just yet!

For those who not familiar with this series, it is based on actual events.  Is the house on the cover of TBH the actual home?  If not where did the inspiration for it and the other covers come from?
Yes the book is based on actual events that really happened to my husband and his family while they lived in the home. The story about the houses true origin is my own imaginings but the ghostly things that happen to Brylee are real.
The house on the cover of book one is the actual house, yes. One day I was going through old photos of the house and found this one. My publisher and I agreed that it was important to show the actual house.
The other covers inspiration come from items that are the center, if you will, of the story. For example The Crimson Key cover shows a key and a white rose. The key is very important for Brylee to guard and the white rose holds a major significance to a terrible tragedy that occurs.
The final book, The White Door, is my most favorite because the cover model is my niece Taylor Hensley. She was gracious enough to model for me. If you look closely you’ll see she’s holding something very important to the books.

Do you believe in ghosts?  Have you ever seen one?
I do believe in ghosts. I’ve never seen an apparition but I’ve had some very strange things happen to me that I believe to be spirits trying to make contact. In The Brown House, the very first thing to happen in the house to Brylee that is ghostly actually happened to me while on my honeymoon.

Would you stay in house over night if you knew it was haunted?
The only reason I would say yes to this is if I could do it with my friends;  I’d be too scared to do it alone. I may write about this but I’m a big chicken!

~~~REVIEWS~~~
A Review of The Visitors Series
Lynn~~~
The Visitor's Series is one of my favorite reads.  It is a new twist on ghost telling.  The home featured in the series is REAL.  The author's husband lived in the home with his parents.  Some of the occurrences that are in the book actually happened while Christy's husband lived in the home.  This makes the books all the more scary.  The fact that these things could and did happen will leave you peeking from under the covers the next time you hear a bump in the night.
The characters are relatable.  As the reader you can connect with the main character, Brylee Branson, become invested and watch her grow.  You see Brylee go from a selfish brat in The Brown House to a carrying and compassionate young woman in The White Door.  The Visitor's Series is not just a ghost story.  It is about family, friendship, finding your first love and your purpose in this world.
Unfound, the novella, is based on Kayla's story.  Kayla is one of the souls trapped by the Brown House.  She has a unique personality and despite being a ghost, is a great friend to Brylee.
If you haven't discovered the wonderful books of Christy Sloat, take my advise and check her out.
                                             ~~~~~

Cheree~
Love a good haunted house story? Well hold onto your hats because you have never read a story like this before! Meet Brylee, young, pretty and in the prime of her life, then her parents decide to move to the opposite side of the country and start over. They move to a creepy brown house in New Jersey. Talk about your fixer upper! And from here starts Brylee’s adventure and discovery that she is a Medium and can not only see, but communicate with ghosts. This series follows Brylee as she finds out the truth to the curse of the house she has grown to love, new friends that will change her forever, and a love that most people only dream of. Brylee won’t stop until she breaks this curse and frees the innocent people that were affected by one person’s selfish actions, as the curse keeps spiraling out of control and taking more innocent victims, including people Brylee loves very much. This series is so frightening yet beautiful, sad but happy, has so many twists and oh my gosh moments you will constantly be wanting more. A series that you can enjoy over and over again. An original and gripping story that will have you flying through the pages!

Angie (Guest Reviewer)
Christy Sloat has me keeping my nightlight on, wondering if that sound was in fact the wind or something else.  The Visitor’s Series/ Unfound are by far one of my favorite series.  The Brown House, The Crimson Key, The White Door, and Unfound have carried on the haunted tale of a Teenager whose ability to talk to the dead has unearthed a terrifying family history.  Christy’s consistency in tapping into each and every character as a whole will no doubt make you love them or hate them.  Christy stirs the emotions by dealing with real time feelings that so many teenagers feel and real time situations that we would never want to experience.
Brylee Branson, is a typical teenager with typical problems… she wishes.  Brylee finds out that she is a medium who wants nothing more than to help those spirits in her home to pass over, but curses from beyond the grave will have life changing effects not only on the love of her life, Ephrim, and her best friends Lynley and Kayla.  I must say, of all the characters in the series I had an instant connection with Kayla while reading The Brown House and was thrilled when Christy decided to write Unfound to allow an insight on her life.   Twists and turns in the story leave many “A-ha!” moments but don’t think for a minute you won’t need that box of tissues either.  This story embodies friendship in every way and shows you that empowerment with the help of family and friends does come from within.

The Brown House
Some secrets should never be revealed…

Brylee Branson begrudgingly made the excruciating move with her family from the warm sandy beaches of California to small town living in New Jersey. As if she wasn’t miserable enough, they’ve moved into a creepy old house that everyone in the area claims is haunted. Brylee dismisses the idea of ghosts and hauntings, until she begins to see and hear things that can’t be explained…

Brylee has no choice but to seek the help of new friends to unlock the secrets of this place she now calls home. But some secrets should never be revealed. Can the teens find a way to release the spirits imprisoned within the walls? Or will the curse claim them, too?

See what reviewers are saying:

5 Stars from Lynn/2 Girls & A Book

Wow. I read it in one sitting! I love a good vampire tale, especially the "old world" kind. This is such a refreshing take on the vampire saga. By adding a new twist, Rain Murphy has taken the history, mystic and romance of the vampire and brought him into this century. The story has it all mystery, romance, violence...oh my. A must read for all Vamp Lovers!

5 Stars from Ruby Barrea

This is a truly great read although not long it has humor, excitement, and romance. What more could you ask for? Oh and handsome vampires too! Loved it !!

5 Stars from Larina Bridenstine

As I had the pleasure to read this book one thing comes to mind….A GREAT READ!
The book had the innuendos at sex but never any raunchy scenes. The characters were so easy to connect with. I found myself feeling just what you would want to feel. As the first kiss was taken I felt my heart skip a beat. When they looked into one another’s eyes I could feel the love starting to happen. I loved how Ra took on her mate River.
Ra is just the type of woman every man needs today in this world. I could see her fighting for her servants right and I could feel her love and even her anger! She was so likable! She was one I could relate to.
When Sky found her mate I felt the goose bumps, I felt the love she found so quickly. I enjoyed how fast she fell in love. (sounds like my own marriage) When she went through the bonding I was scared for her. I found myself crying as the writer described it.
All in all this book had me wanting more. I wish this book had more to it. The book ended way to fast for me. All I have to say to the author is WELL DONE.

The noise wakes them and then it starts. Their heads jerk to the right three times rapidly
as they stand in the most awkward way.

That's when we run.
That's when we hide.

That's how we stay alive until The Seventh Day!

Q&A with Lou from The Seventh Day

North America lost contact with Europe seven days ago. In the end, only limited reports of a fog and an infection were heard from the last of the news channels coming out. Cable and satellite networks lost control of their signal, after showing repeated broadcasts of confusion amid the crisis. The president made a statement about remembering who we are and maintaining our humanity in this time of trouble and chaos. The CDC made a blanket statement, reminding people to keep their infected at home, isolated from other family members. Bringing the infected to the hospital has only created more sickness and caused an epidemic of the virus in all major cities. We are here live with a survivor of what some have labeled the Rage Flu, while others speculate it is CJD, a rare form of Mad Cow Disease that infects humans. Please welcome, Lou Stoddard from Laurel, Montana.

Interviewer: “Welcome Lou. Can you describe the scene in front of you as we speak?”

Lou: “Oh, uhm sure. There isn’t much to say. The biters are dying off slowly. We don't know what’s killing them, exactly. We thought maybe exposure. The ones who aren’t dead are standing still, frozen there until one of us makes a noise, but we don't do that much. I guess I’m just standing on the west coast, staring at the ocean and hoping to find my dad.”

Interviewer: “How did you find yourself on the west coast? That's a long way from Laurel?”

Lou: “It’s a very long way. We stole vehicles. We hid in places that were overrun. We drove all day and night, eating packaged food.” Long pause. “I guess I came here because we heard that the base on Whidbey was a safe zone. That the military had been able to make a biter-free place.”

Interviewer: “And have you found that? Are you safe?”

Lou: “No. I don't think the word safe means what it did a week ago. Safe used to be my whole life and I didn't even think on it or consider the word. Now I realize it’s a short-term state of mind based on ammunition and a place to hide.”

Interviewer: “Are you alone?”

Lou: “No. I have friends with me here on the coast and my little sister and her friends are at my ski cabin. They’re safe there, but again it’s a short-term word now.”

Interviewer: “How old are you, Lou?”

Lou: “Uh, seventeen. I’ll be eighteen in a month. So almost eighteen.”

Interviewer: “So where are your parents?”

Lou: “Well, my mom is gone. She went early on. I locked her under the stairs but she broke out. But she’s gone now. I watched her fingers twitch with their last bit of life.” Another long pause. “My dad is out there. He’s out there somewhere. He’s looking for me. I just know he is.”

Interviewer: “Do you have any advice for the people out there who are alive and/or are hiding?”

Lou: “Don't trust people you meet. Not right away at least. Somehow the bad people seem to survive bad times easier. Don't run unless you know you can get away. Sounds bring them to life. Don't go into the dark, they’re waiting there. Just remember silence is survival. Oh, and once someone is bitten that's it. You have to leave them behind. They get sick right away.”

Interviewer: “Is there anything you wish for, Lou?”

Lou: “I guess I wish that the world could find its way back, maybe not all the way back to the place that got us here. But maybe part way, to a place where good things happened and kids didn't need to be so scared. And not just scared of biters.”

Interviewer: “Do you know how this all started? Have you heard anything?”

Lou: “Uh, well, yes but I’m going to pass on this one because I still don't believe what I heard.”

Interviewer: “And a silly question because some of our listeners just want to know silly things; do you still believe in love or happiness?”

Lou: “I want to say no, but I guess because I’m young and dumb, I do. I have seen real love, even in the last seven days. I have felt love, even in a moment when I shouldn't have, I did.”

Interviewer: “And finally, how do you think this is going to end, Lou? Do you think the infection will be cured? Or do you think the sick will just die off and the rest of us will be okay?”

Whispered response from Lou: “I gotta go.” Silence. A scream. Silence again.

Interviewer: “Lou? Lou, are you all right?” Silence. “Well I guess that's all the time we have for that. Stay tuned for the panel of scientists we have up next as they discuss possible cures and outcomes. And remember people, silence is survival.”

Could you stay alive?

5 Star Review by Cheree/2 Girls & A Book

Another great book! I absolutely love how Lou, the main character, is so real! She is no hero. She is, because she is fighting to survive, and because she does what she has to, even through her failures. But that's just it, she is no fancy fighting, killing machine. She is just a 17 year old girl. I love her weakness, how easily she will admit her fears and her mistakes. This story feels so real and raw. There are some great dystopian/post apoc books that are great, but so unrealistic and hard to relate to. But these characters are relatable, they are scared, they search for coffee!, they pee their pants, they fail and they break down and cry. I loved all the characters instantly, they were all so well written and fun. There are some real emotional parts in here too. Hard parts that make you wonder what you would do, how you would react, could you do certain things? It's a book you can feel connected too. And the story line is just believable enough to be creepy and a little scary. The ending is great, wraps up nicely, but leaves you with something great and some more scary to look forward to. Born is my fav series of all time, and I loved Imaginations too, and The Seventh Day is another amazing book in the dystopian/post apoc genre by Tara Brown writing as AE Watson!

blurb

Janessa Rowe is a twenty one year old college girl with little respect for other people. She’s a rich, spoiled brat of a girl who gets her kicks out of humiliating others. When she discovers that her boyfriend of three years has in fact engaged in a physical relationship with someone else, Janessa will stop at nothing to get a little payback. Even if that means using her new rival’s disgruntled fiancée to get what she wants.
Dakota Blackwater is everything Janessa is not. He’s kind, sweet, gentle, and a stand-up guy all in all, but when his girlfriend’s betrayal hurts more than his pride, he agrees to take part in a plan that will test both their self-restraints and their feelings for one another.
Problems arise, however, when Janessa’s interest for Dakota shifts from being a pawn to achieve her ultimate goal, to potential lover. After having her heart broken in the past, the last thing she wants is to get involved in matters of the heart, but how can she follow through with her plan when the more time she spends with Dakota, the less she cares about getting payback? Sooner rather than later they are forced to confront the reality that their game has slowly transformed into something else and that what seemed like a scheme to exact revenge, now comprises both their hearts in ways neither of them anticipated.

excerpt
“Trust that no matter what happens, I won’t hate or resent you.” I gave him the green light, but I really shouldn’t have because I needed to sort out my feelings first. Because, even when I tried hard to deny it, there was something about Dakota that I couldn’t just walk away from. There was something about him that I found irresistible. I had no idea what that was or why I insisted on putting myself in a position I might come to regret later, but nothing was lost without a gamble. The deck of cards was in my hands, I just needed to figure out when to make the first move.
“Janessa, this could really turn out to be something neither of us is expecting or is ready for,” he said cautiously. “There’s only so much of me I can give.”
“Yes, and that doesn’t mean it’ll be bad.” Staring directly into his eyes, I added, “Besides, nothing needs to happen. If it does, I’m sure we’re both adult enough to handle it.”
It was not like I was asking for commitment or anything. And nothing was written down so I could either end up with a really good friend, or a good memory of a once lover—hopefully anyway.
“We’ll just have to see,” he finally replied.
“Good. Now take off your shirt and lie down.

If you break the curse, you become the legend. Washington Irving and Rip Van Winkle had no choice but to cover up the deadly truth behind Ichabod Crane’s disappearance. Centuries later, a Crane returns to Sleepy Hollow awakening macabre secrets once believed to be buried deep. What if the monster that spawned the legend lived within you? Now, Ireland Crane, reeling from a break-up and seeking a fresh start, must rely on the newly awakened Rip Van Winkle to discover the key to channeling the darkness swirling within her. Bodies are piling high and Ireland is the only one that can save Sleepy Hollow by embracing her own damning curse. But is anyone truly safe when the Horseman rides?   REVIEWS~~~ 5 Stars from Lynn Think you know the story of the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow? Think again. Stacey Rourke delivers a heart pounding thrill ride in her newest tale, Crane. Your heart will race and your breath will hitch with each terrifying step the Horseman’s steed takes as he closes in on his next unsuspecting victim. Some of the residents of Sleepy Hollow are not who they appear to be. Who has called the Hessian forth? Can a past injustice and a lost love be righted? Most importantly who dawns the Hessian's cloak in search of centuries old revenge? Fans of The Gryphon Series will love that the main character, Ireland, carries on the author’s trademark witty, flirtatious, and sarcastic sense of humor. The climatic end to the novel left me sitting up in bed gripping my kindle at 2:00am. I was so engrossed in the story. My heart was pounding. My dogs were pacing not understanding the palpable tension that seemed to hang in the air as I neared the end of this tale. Even after finishing the story, putting down the kindle and snuggling back into bed; scenes from the novel continued to dance in my head. I give this tale a 5 Star Review. Stacey Rourke weaves a tale that includes dark flashes from the past when Ichabod Crane first encountered the Horseman to present day Sleepy Hollow and the unexplained murders of 2 of its prominent residents. You will not be disappointed on the journey this book takes you.   5 Stars from Cheree What a great spin on an already epic story. I honestly am not super familiar with the Sleepy Hollow story, except that Johny Depp is hot ;) but I know the basics. But this, what an amazing book! Right off the bat I loved the main character Ireland, she is funny and talks out loud to herself, I can relate to this woman! But the story itself was kind of frightening! Next thing you know you find yourself sucked into a story you never could have anticipated. This is a great tale with twists you won't see coming. I'm very pleased with how this ended, does not leave you angry in anticipation of the next book, just anxiously awaiting the continuation of the story. Great book, loved it!!

“Tonight was meant to be the Harvest Ball,” Katrina said as she slid between the folds of her crimson and taupe gown. “Now the town is meeting, trying to concoct a plan to stop a being that death itself couldn’t tame.” Ichabod sat on the edge of the bed with his back, respectfully, to Katrina while she changed. His loaded musket lay across his lap. In the reflection of the window in front of him he could see the soft curve of her hips as they tapered into her narrow waist. He cleared his throat and shifted his gaze to the floor. His chin tipped to the side, ever so slightly, to ask, “Are you secure in our plan?” “I am to attend the summit on the arm of Brom Van Brunt,” she reaffirmed as she pulled her long, blonde locks out from the back of her gown and began tightening the laces of her bodice. “Then speak with as many people as I can, searching for anyone that may have motives leading to the Horseman.” Ichabod nodded. Mostly to himself, he muttered the remaining details they were depending upon, “Rip will be inside as well. That man can finesse a crowd with a skill that truly baffles. If there are secrets to be found, he will uncover them. Irv will be outside with me, primarily because the Horseman isn’t the only one in this town that would like to see his head on a spike. We will be on horseback, patrolling the grounds with a few other men that have volunteered. You will have nothing to fear.” Her elegant gown in place, Katrina turned to Ichabod wearing an expression equal parts timidity and fear. “What of Brom?” The bed squeaked as Ichabod shifted his weight to face her. “Boorish as his ways may be, he cares for you. If you adopt the guise that you have interest in him, he will do all he can to protect you inside the gathering, while I provide you the same service outside.” “And,” her long lashes brushed the tops of her cheeks as she cast her gaze to the floor, “you aren’t bothered by me being on his arm?” In the midst of the plotting and planning, Ichabod had slipped into the role he knew well of military strategist. He had detached himself from the emotional aspects—until that very moment. The reality of his request sank in like a heavy stone. He had asked her to take another man’s arm, asserting her place beside him. The implications of that dug into his gut like a dull blade, churning and twisting deep. “The mere idea of that makes me ache,” he stated, forcing the words through his suddenly parched throat. “Yet I would endure this hardship, and countless others, to keep you safe.” She moistened her lips with a flick of her tongue, seemingly wrestling with words that gave her pause. “Ichabod, when this is over … w-would you call yourself mine?” Ichabod closed his eyes. The euphoria of that question washed over him, cleansing him of all his sins with the promise of tomorrow. Rising to his feet, he took her velvet soft hand in his. A love he hadn’t known possible illuminated her striking face. “From the moment I saw you, my heart belonged to you alone. If by some miracle you were to give me your love in return, I would need nothing else to sustain me the rest of my days.” Katrina’s palm tenderly brushed his cheek. “You have already claimed that.” Allowing no further hesitation, Ichabod gathered her in his arms. Katrina tipped her head back, the soft curves of her body molding to his. Full lips parted in an alluring invitation it would take a stronger man than him to resist. animaatjes-halloween-2977391 info book2 covergifTitle: Raven Series: Legends Saga # 2 Author: Stacey Rourke Audience: NA Paranormal Genre: Thriller/Suspense Date Published: Sept 22, 2014 blurb An infamous love, destined nevermore, For death could not claim, the enchanting Lenore. Cursed by the malevolent spirit of the Headless Horseman, Ireland Crane ventures to Manhattan in search of a way to break her soul crushing bond. Instead, she discovers the lines between fact and fiction are blurring once more. Croaking ravens. Telltale hearts. Could the works of Poe be coming to pass with handsome Wall Street Midas Ridley Peolte as their unwilling target? She walks the Earth, a plague on mankind, searching for he, her rotted heart doth pine. Together, the two unknowingly release a dark force death itself could not tame. Surrounded by the unrelenting violence and mayhem they’ve unleashed, Ireland feels her control over the Horseman slipping. Before the beast within consumes her, she and her crew must follow the clues of the dead to right a centuries’ old wrong. Will it be enough to sate the Horseman’s appetite? Hell hath no fury like a ghoul scorned. REVIEWS~~~ 5 Stars from Lynn It is rare that a book comes along that renders me unable to write a review about it. Not that Raven was a bad read; just the opposite in fact. I find myself befuddled when trying to write a coherent statement. How does one review the mind of Ridley and Poe? Well, here goes. Rourke still brings the wit, humor and sarcasm that she is known for as she intertwines Washing Irving’s The Headless Horseman with the morbid, craziness that is Edgar Allan Poe. The cast you fell in love with from Crane; Noah, the strong, mostly silent type, Rip with his selective narcolepsy, and Ireland the Hessian, all return in Raven. This unlikely trio sets off for Manhattan in search of why and by whom this curse has been placed on Ireland. What they find only adds more mystery to their situation. Meet Ridley. Ridley is the character you hate to love. One the one had he is a total sleaze ball, but on the other hand he is a frightened man who cannot escape the torment of seeing ghosts everywhere. Ridley is your Edgar Allan Poe. Like Crane, Raven is a two part tale with Ireland and crew in the present and the past is told by Poe. Put your thinking caps on folks because Rourke is taking us back to high school as she weaves in a few Poe classics like, Lenore, The Tell Tale Heart and The Masque of the Red Death into her plot. These references are fairly obvious but it may spark your interest enough to go back and reread them as I did. It added to the story for me. My favorite character in Raven is Lenore. She is bad ass and gives credence to the saying hell hath no fury like a woman scorned! What Lenore unleashes in Manhattan should truly make any man think twice before pissing off a woman again. I loved this second installment in the Legends Saga. This story takes off on page one and never slows down. Stacey Rourke has unleashed another fantastic story for her readers to devour.   5 Stars from Cheree Absolutely amazing! I was fortunate enough to get to read an early copy of this and have to say, this book is sooo good! I loved Book 1, Crane, I thought it was so fun and creative and the characters were great! Super funny and the comradery is great between Ireland, Noah and Rip, and I think that was one thing that made this book that much better! Raven starts right where Crane left off. The trio are in New York, tracking down Ireland's infamous sugar skull tattoo and who the heck wanted her cursed. But just when they think they might finally get some answers, enter the dashingly charming Ridley. Poor guy. And don't forget about the devastating tale of Edgar Allen Poe, and the curse that just keeps on giving. Ridley is lucky enough to be damned with the curse to see the dead and give life, the curse bestowed on him by the ever giving Poe. And him and Ireland have a special bond, if not obnoxious and yet so fun. I loved Ridley, with his charm and crazy. And only together, life and death, can the nightmare that was unleashed be stopped. This is a winding tale that is so fast paced and gripping, I literally found myself holding my breath at times. And Noah....sigh, I love him! He is so funny and great! This book is all around just so funny! and scary, and crazy! I loved it! But leaves you hanging and desperate for book 3!

Clamping her eyes on the wash of tears that threatened, Ireland ignored the wailing of her heart … and laid a palm to each of their cheeks. One lone tear snuck between her lashes at the cascade of tingles seeping up her arms. “You can’t blame them for not understanding,” a familiar voice drawled behind her. She spun as he neared, leaving Rip and Noah wheezing for breath—or, more likely, completion of her task. Techno-colored flowers bloomed in a colorless world each time the sole of Ridley’s shoes met the earth. The crisp cut of his white, tailored suit was accented by a burst of color from the button-down shirt beneath that changed in hue to match the species of flowers that sprung to life. Hydrangeas blue. Orchid purple. Lily fuchsia. Rose coral. As he neared, Ireland noticed his eyes morphed to match as well. The result hypnotic. His haggard and troubled façade was a thing of the past. The man before her exuded confidence and a zest for life from every pore. The draw of which was so magnetic Ireland had to fight to keep her feet planted while her body insisted she close the distance between them. “To them this is a thrill, a game of chicken against the Reaper himself.” Ridley paused beside her, his shoulder skimming hers. Even then he didn’t grace her with a glance, his attention fixed on Rip and Noah. Tipping his head toward her, the warmth of his breath teased over her breast bone. “For us, it’s destiny.” The moment he stepped away from her, the chill of solitude lashed at Ireland’s soul and cut deep. Bending eye-level with her withering subjects, Ridley pursed his rose petal lips to blow a soft, healing breath over both of them. Wan complexions of the dying were ripened to plump apricot. Both men blinked away their disappointment before dipping in a low bow—foreheads to the ground in a show of respect. “No need for that, boys.” Ridley smoothed the front of his suit coat, a self-depreciating chuckle playing over his lips. Neither humbled servant budged. “You’re like me?” Pacing in a slow circle around him, Ireland’s eye narrowed. He matched her steps, leading them in an intimate waltz normally reserved for predators—or lovers. “Like you?” He tsked. “Oh no, my darling flower. There is no other like you. Our only similarity is being pawns in a game that began centuries before either of our fathers got an amorous gleam in their eyes.” Ireland’s gaze lingered over the soft curve of his mouth, wondering if his lips could possibly taste as delectable as they looked. “How do we play?” Curling one finger into a ruffled tuft of her skirt, Ridley pulled her to him. Bowing his head, he brushed his cheek over the delicate curve of her collarbone. “The game is already in motion,” he murmured. “The rule sheet not meant for our eyes. All we can do now is stay alive.” Ireland weaved her fingers into his hair, yanking his head back with a passion driven force that bordered on violent. “I’ve taken lives. I’m a monster,” she snarled against his lips, tormenting them both with the agonizing veil of energy that denied their touch. His hand snaked up her arm to find her fingers and loosen her grasp. Palm to palm. Fingers entwined with fingers. “Does granting it make me any better?” Ridley didn’t give her time to answer. With one hand pressed to the small of her back he crushed her to him. Their lips met with a desperate urgency that caused Heaven and Earth to quake in nervous anticipation of what was coming … tumblr_mv01masxYg1rqak9yo1_500 dream cast 1Legenddreamcast soundtrack
