The Detective Kay Hunter Series is hands down one of my absolute favorites. I have completed the entire series via audiobooks. The narrator Alison Campbell is brilliant. She has brought to life each of these stories for me. She lends a unique voice to each character and the portrayal is congruent in every book.

Author Rachel Amphlett touches on a few dark issues with the story but she handled it very well. I devoured Turn to Dust just as I have all the previous books. Detective Hunter is a strong female lead character who is tenacious, strong, and supportive. I love her interactions with her husband. A highlight in each book is to see what animal he will be treating at home.

Book 1 is a full length novel but the remainder are novellas. My review reflects Books 1 -4.

The Death of a Suspect follows book 1, The Death of Me. in book 1, High School Queen Avery Lewis who attends a party, is murdered, and wakes up as a ghost in an alley. There she is visited by a reaper and told she must find her vessel. It just so happens that her vessel is Clark Daniel. Clark could not be any more different than Avery. Where Avery lives on the right side of town, is preppy, and popular, Clark is from the opposite side of town, lives in a run-down trailer park, isn't popular, and drives a beat-up car. Avery gets knocked down a few pegs as she has no choice but to pair up with Clark and see things through his eyes. Avery soon realizes that it's possible that someone she knew murdered her and that her friends may not really be her friends after all.  

In Book 2, Avery uses Laney (Clark's twin sister and therefore her vessel too) to spy on their number 1 suspect - Tyler. Things seem pretty shady between him and Cassie so Avery, Laney, and Avery's sister Lindsey follow Tyler in an attempt to get dirt on him or an outright confession.

In Book 3 & 4, Avery's ghost is fading and her reaper warns time is running out. Avery, Laney, Lindsey, and Clark must act quickly. Avery is attending high school in Laney's body, rejoining the cheer team, and dating a football player, all in an attempt to find her killer. Avery gets first hand look, literally, at what it means to not be popular and to have the so called elite of the school single her out when she get the cafeteria lunch garbage dumped all over her. To get even, Avery/Laney and Lindsay lock one of the instigators in the truck of Lindsey car during a football game. When they go to let her put they find she was murdered and had the same symbol carved into her as Avery. 

The author is slowing killing me with these novellas!!!! I need to know why these murders are happening and who is doing them. This is a fast paced, well written thriller from Amy Richie. 

She could save the world...if she doesn't destroy it first.

I need a shot of whiskey and a holy blessing after that ride. Wowzers. Haven Cage delivered a heart stopping tale of Heaven vs Hell. Nevaeh's emotions emanated from the story. I feel like my heart has been shoved through a wringer. And that ending!

Lucy Zukaitus' sultry southern voice ensnared me from page one!

Accidents happen. Especially around zombie turkeys. Then you add zombie humans, and problems proliferate. Mix in some ill-planned genetic engineering, and things get crazy.
The insanity continues, from the story where zombies are merged with cucumbers to the one where two basement-dwelling nerds gain access to all video content from the past two hundred years - from aliens.
Andy Zach pulls out all the stops on his imagination as he serves up this smorgasbord of silliness. Try it. Laughter is good for your soul.

​How did you select your narrator? I was seeking a narrator who could capture not only the tone of my book,  but also the pacing and, perhaps, most importantly in capturing the characters’ voices and intonations. I auditioned several, but Thomas really shone through. He had the English accent I sought for the gravitas, but also was excellent at accents, pacing, pausing and shifting gears. I was extremely impressed and he was a joy to work with. How closely did you work with your narrator before and during the recording process? Did you give them any pronunciation tips or special insight into the characters? I provided some cultural insight to Thomas he wasn’t aware of prior such as certain Southern colloquialisms or pronunciations. However, I also wanted to give him a wide berth in relaying what he ‘heard’ in his head. Since this was truly a joint creation I believed in letting him possess some of the interpretations. 
Are you an audiobook listener? What about the audiobook format appeals to you? I do enjoy a good audiobook. I used to commute between 2 and 3 hours a day and discovered the format was not only an amazing way to pass the time, but a fantastic art form to enjoy. There are certain aspects of an audiobook which just can’t be beat such as the simple act of someone really good telling you a story. At the same time, you have the issue of still incorporating your imagination so you are not completely fed the experience as you would be in TV, the stage or the movies. 
If this title were being made into a TV series or movie, who would you cast to play the  primary roles? Thomas and I had this conversation. Without getting into the weeds, I was eyeing Ian Richardson from the British version of ‘House of Cards’ as our primary antagonist, Christopher Waltz as another antagonist and a young Josh Holloway from LOST as our main protagonist. 
How did you celebrate after finishing this novel? A fine bottle of properly aged ale.
What’s next for you? I have a second series of books which are in the fantasy genre. The first book is, “In Pursuit of The Pale Prince.” The sequel is set to be published in October 2020. Thomas and I are also discussing him narrating the second book in The Alexandria Rising Chronicles, Alexandria Reborn. 
What inspired this book? That’s an interesting question. There wasn’t one or two things in particular, rather, it was a combination of circumstances and ideas. I wanted to have fun writing it and the reader to have fun reading it. I was weary of writing in reality, you might say. That said, the inspiration, on one hand, was an outlet — a catharsis — for me to discover and create a world and characters outside of my existence. As far as other inspirations, I was intrigued by the idea of how little we really know of history, our world and our collective works as a species. I was also inspired by numerous authors’ works including Robert Ludlum, Dan Brown, Susanna L. Clarke, Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof (who wrote “Lost”), Clive Cussler and J.R.R. Tolkien.
