I live for your nightmares.
You won't see me....hear me....or know me, but sooner or later I will come for you. Up from the ground, on the winds, or down from the sky. You will then see me.... you will scream.... you will die.

Aaron Wolfe wakes up unsure of where he is, surrounded by a darkness deeper than night with a distinctive metallic smell he could almost taste. Using the flashlight on his phone he makes a gruesome discovery. The smell is blood coming from the bodies of people who have been ripped apart. Everywhere in the town he's in the people are all dead. A feeling deep inside of primal fear and the scent of death surrounds him. He's the only survivor in a town that's been torn apart.

Trying to make sense of it all, realizing that the pervasive blanket of darkness must be blocking the electronics signal from his cell phone and afraid of what being the only survivor in a massacred town will suggest to others. He realizes he must get away from whatever is blocking his phone and reach out to his partner Jaclyn Hunsaker. He knows she will work with him to solve the mystery of who or what laid waste to the lives of every single person in town. But first he needs to get a signal on his phone.

A Scalpel Wielding Villain.
A Healthcare System that Fails.
A Whistleblower that Protects Her Patients - No Matter the Costs.
A trusted anesthesiologist, Dr. Roxanne Roth, is healing from the loss of her fiancé by consuming her time with work. It doesn’t hurt that her new love interest, Dr. Justin Kirkland, spends almost as much time at the hospital as she does.
Entranced in the throes and complications of new love, Roxanne looks forward to work every day. Her time at the hospital would almost be cathartic if not for Dr. D. K. Webb, a neurosurgeon, who is quickly amassing a pile of complaints - and bodies.
Despite trying to avoid Webb, Roxanne finds herself working alongside the doctor during a routine, low-risk surgery. Fueled by cocaine and ego, Webb intentionally sabotages the case, leading to the patient dying on the operating table.
Roxanne’s tenuous grip on recovery is shattered with her patient’s death, quickly replaced by anger and a drive for justice. Now Roxanne will do anything to protect her patients from the killer on the other side of the sterile surgical field - before he can silence her as well.
In this gripping, sinister medical thriller, Dr. Shira Shiloah will leave listeners wondering about the potential evil lurking behind every surgical mask.

A Word From the Author

“To be an indie author, let go of the outcome”My debut novel, EMERGENCE, took me thirteen years to write, edit, and publish. However, it would probably still be in a drawer (figuratively and literally) if it wasn't for my experience at a women physician's retreat in January of this year. At the immersive conference, I learned to meditate and also delved deep into my career goals and plans. After two days of intensives, I mustered the courage to tell the class I had written a book.
The compassionate leaders asked me poignant questions. Why, specifically, had I not released it yet? I shrugged and joked, "Nobody wants an ugly book baby." The group laughed, but probed deeper. They asked, "So what if it is ugly? What's the worst that can happen?"
I realized fear was holding me back. Fear of a bad outcome, fear of poor reviews, or worse, being mocked as an author. This was all ego and baseless fear. If the book was unsuccessful, why would it matter so much to me? There are plenty of books I do not like, and it says nothing of the author. Art is extremely subjective. Of course, some people will like it and some will not. I had to accept that to move forward.
I am thrilled to report, six months since launching my book, it's received numerous accolades and hit multiple Amazon and Barnes and Noble Bestseller lists, domestic and internationally. It's a beautiful baby, and I am proud I released it. For all the creatives out there: Release your art. Be free of fear. Do not worry about the outcome. Fear is doing nothing…but holding you back.

Audiobook Review - What Lurks Below

I love reliving books I previously read with audiobooks. Sometimes I get a better understanding of the story and a new found appreciation when I hear it. That was definitely the case with What Lurks Below. ~ Lynn

At Colony, no one knows where the children came from. No one talks about how they were babies when they were ripped from their parents to be raised in the Tin Can.
No one knows, that is, except Amelia. At 13, Amelia remembers a mother who loved her. She remembers fresh peaches and ice cream - not the calorically rationed food that tastes like stagnant swamp water and chemicals.
Desperate to hold on to her memories, Amelia shares her past with her younger brother, Alex. She teaches him about the reality of The Garden and its power to provide safety and love.
Soon, Alex learns that life at Colony is more dangerous than he thought. He spies an enormous, black...something...lurking in the water, while no one seems to notice it at all.
Fear of the creature has Alex thrashing his sheets in bed. His marks drop, and Council insists on Amelia telling them what is wrong. Amelia tries to keep up appearances, but Council refuses to believe her and locks her up.
If Amelia isn't willing to forgo the love she felt and the life she had back then, Council will throw her in the water to meet whatever it is that lurks below the Tin Can.
For fans of The Giver, this dystopian-charged fantasy will show listeners the valiance of holding on to one's beliefs and the value of true sibling love.

One of the best audiobooks I have listened too.
5 STARS

I previously read What Lurks Below by Jordan Thompson but it was a whole new experience hearing it narrated by Delaney Hagy. With her articulate and haunting prose, Hagy brought this story to life. I was lost in Thompson's story all over again.

The shadows and the Bewilder in the forest were beautifully written and one of my favorite parts of the story. I loved Amelia's rebellious nature. She was a hauntingly broken character with a fierce loyalty to Alex.

Well written, deeply developed characters brought this middle grade dystopian leaping out from its pages (and speakers).

Sex. Horror. Discomfort.

In five stories and one poem, you'll find questions and answers, and you might learn something about yourself along the way. Something uncomfortable. Something dark.

What if eternal life really can be found in the Church, but not in the way you've been taught and not without some...changes...to your body?

If you're lonely and the world is ending, does it really matter if your lover is actually alive as long as they love you in return?

When you're a doctor without morals, medical experiments are a way of life. But what if your subjects need entertainment? Why not a special pet?

If your love life needs help, make sure you don't ask a god, because they can give you exactly what you want - or at least, what you think you want.

Sometimes, bad people can do good things and might even end up being a hero. Unfortunately, it might cost you a few toes. And your life. And the entire world. But for a beautiful woman, isn't it worth it?

And when seeking a legendary beast in the Congolese jungle, make sure to wear good boots. You never know when you might have to run.

Come on in and join us. Lean back, open up, and let us take a look at that tickle. We're sure it's nothing serious.

Just...something in your mouth.

Author Interview

1.     Do you believe certain types of writing translate better into audiobook format?
I believe all types of writing can be translated into audiobook format, whether it’s fiction or non-fiction. The trick is how well it’s written and how well the narrator is able to bring those
words to life.
2.     Was a possible audiobook recording something you were conscious of while writing?
I knew I wanted to have all my novels translated into audiobooks at some point. I didn’t think of it so much while I wrote them, as the story evolves beyond me sometimes. However, I’ve always wanted my work to reach readers in any format available.
3.     How closely did you work with your narrator before and during the recording process?
Skyler is a great partner in this process. We text and talk prior to starting the narration to get an idea of what we both want. Then I create character sketches and a plot summary with the overarching feel I’m working to achieve so he knows what tone to strike for the story and each character. Skyler Is an efficient narrator, able to different voices, male and female. He works quickly, uploads the chapters and we communicate throughout the process to make sure we stay on track. I review the chapters, upload metadata and cover art, give it the go ahead then it’s finalized online. We split the Royalties so we both work to market. It motivates us both to
create success for the audiobooks.
4.      Did you give them any pronunciation tips or special insight into the characters?
Absolutely! Since I write Sci Fi, Fantasy and Speculative Fiction this is a necessity. In order for Skyler bring his full talents to the project, pronunciation tips and insights are necessary.
5.    Is there a particular part of this story that you feel is more resonating in the audiobook performance than in the book format?
There’s a particularly violent scene between two characters where one character ends up dead. Originally, when I planned this scene there wasn’t supposed to be a death, however, as I wrote it the violent character pushed the scene farther than I anticipated. This shocked and appalled me and I initially thought I could not keep this scene in the book. Even in written form it had given me chills and upset me as writer. I almost removed it. Then I considered the violent character’s entire arc and the other disturbing scenes to follow and realized I had to leave it. I had to show this character’s transition, had to make sure the reader experienced it for the character to be believable. I’ve since received both negative reviews and high praise for this. As an artist, I firmly believe art must be impactful to be successful. This scene, as impactful as it is in writing is even more so in audio format, therefore, I consider it successful.
6.     What do you say to those who view listening to audiobooks as “cheating” or as inferior to “real reading”?
I say readers should be free to enjoy reading in whichever style works best for them. Sometimes it’s for convenience or it makes it easier to become part of the authors’ world and characters. Reading is about enjoying the process. Whether it’s for information or escapism, a reader should find the process pleasant.
7.     What gets you out of a writing slump? What about a reading slump?
I have my periods when I get very little writing completed. When I’m in a strong creative period I can write approx. 2000 words a day. Unfortunately, I work full-time and the last few years it’s taken a lot of my energy and this year I’ve gotten back to my writing. Getting out of the slump means getting even a little bit of writing in every day. Even if that means a dozen words. It’s about the habit, building the habit and keeping the habit. Same with reading, get some time in every day, even if it’s a paragraph. Don’t lose the habit.
8.     Have any of your characters ever appeared in your dreams?
The first book, Dreams of the Queen, is based on a dream in 2011. That’s part of the reason for the title. I published the ebook and paperback in 2012 after writing the entire first book
in about three months. The next two books expanded the world and characters I’d created and brought everything full circle.
9.     What bits of advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Don’t give up. Keep learning, keep growing. The first million words are the hardest as it takes time to find/create your author voice. Trust yourself. You know what you want to write. Your audience will find you.
10.  What’s next for you?
I’m finally working on my second trilogy again. I’ve been wanting to finish my fantasy trilogy, The Verge. The first book, Fairytale Apocalypse, was published a while back in ebook, paperback and audiobook formats. I’m currently finishing the second book, Wretched Halo, and plan on starting the third book, Glorious Carnage, in 2022. Those will both be released in all three formats as well.

Author Interview

  1. Tell us about the process of turning your book into an audiobook.
    1. The audiobook process has been very fun. Stacey has done an incredible job with each book, and it is a bit surreal to hear someone bring your words to life. It is a whole different experience, with distinct character voices and accents.
  2. How closely did you work with your narrator before and during the recording process? Did you give them any pronunciation tips or special insight into the characters?
    1. The recording process was a great collaborative process. Before Stacey began recording the series, we spoke over the phone about the world and what sort of real world accents might fit people from various nations, which really adds to the atmosphere of the world. We discuss pronunciations before each book begins the recording process.
  3. How do you manage to avoid burn-out? What do you do to maintain your enthusiasm for writing?
    1. I definitely do burn out at times. Writing epic fantasy poses a lot of challenges, and my editing process is also pretty intense. I intentionally take breaks, especially right after finishing a project. And I schedule shorter breaks during the process, so I can step away and come back fresh. Sometimes, I will take a few days and play with some new ideas that don’t have the pressure of books later in an epic series.
  4. Are you an audiobook listener? What about the audiobook format appeals to you?
    1. I have increasingly become more and more of an audio listener. I enjoy memoirs when the author reads them. I prefer fiction to have a distinct narrator, and I especially enjoy narrators who use voices and accents, particularly in fantasy. I really enjoy LitRPG audiobooks and really like when they incorporate sound effects into the narration for elements of the game, like notifications.
  5. If you had the power to time travel, would you use it? If yes, when and where would you go?
    1. I definitely would visit ancient Greece or medieval times, but I would want to be able to come back. It would be cool to see other time periods, but I’d have a hard time giving up many of the comforts of modern life.
  6. If this title were being made into a TV series or movie, who would you cast to play the  primary roles?
    1. Tori - Rosa Salazar; Darien - Bob Morley; Cyrus Maro - Timothee Chalamet; Ren - Richard Madden; Kale - Tom Felton
  7. What do you say to those who view listening to audiobooks as “cheating” or as inferior to “real reading”?
    1. Get over it! People have busy lives, and different formats suit different people. Let people enjoy stories however they want.

  1. What gets you out of a writing slump? What about a reading slump?
    1. Audio often helps with a reading slump. Usually those come when I am busy and tired, and audio can help me get back into a story while I walk the dog or do dishes or whatever it is.
For writing, nothing helps me better than consistency. When I write every day, even if it’s only a couple paragraphs, the slumps are rare. When I am inconsistent, it is always harder to get in the mental space for the story.

  2. What's your favorite:
    1. Food - Pizza
    2. Song - After the Storm by Mumford & Sons
    3. Book - The Way of Kings
    4. Television show - Breaking Bad
    5. Movie - Lord of the Rings
    6. Band - Anberlin
    7. Sports team - Red Sox
    8. City - Paris
  3. What’s next for you?
    1. I just wrapped up the Shadow Watch series, though there is still some audio left to complete. I am already started on a new series called Pantheon, which is a LitRPG fantasy. Book One will hopefully release around the end of the year.

These actors are going to steal more than the show.
This full-cast audiobook, featuring 11 different voice actors, and narrated by Hillary Huber, take on the roles of the Tandem Players, a group of community theater actors that love their community theater almost as much as they love the sweet old landlady who gave them a home to perform their plays in over the years. But when she passes away, and the will that was to leave the Broadtown Theater to the acting troupe disappears, they don’t even have time to mourn their loss. Her son comes in like a wrecking ball, brandishing a 20-year-old will and an ultimatum: leave, or be buried under the rubble when he has the place demolished.

The ragtag group of actors - a street magician, a former stuntwoman, an IT student, an FX specialist, a leading man, and their stage manager - will have to pool their talents and steal the will back. And they’ll have to act fast, because the next wrecking ball that swings in is going to be a real one.
