By Christy Sloat

Publisher: Anchor Group Publishing

Genre: YA, Fantasy, Fairytale

~~~BLURB~~~
Not all princesses get their happily ever after...
They tell me I killed my boyfriend Phillip in cold blood. I stabbed him twenty one times. I’m only seventeen years old, and I am serving life in Spindle Ridge Asylum for the Criminally Insane.
I don’t remember killing him, so it’s really hard to believe I’m capable of murder. In fact I don’t remember anything before I came to Spindle Ridge, not even my boyfriend.
I can only grasp onto my realistic dreams while the madness of the asylum threatens to pull me under. I dream I’m a beautiful princess and there is an evil faerie named Maleficent who is bent on my destruction. The dreams are the closest thing I have to memories of my life, except they aren’t real.
I’m crazy. I’m not a princess.
They’re the mad illusions of an irrational teenage girl, right?
They’ve assigned me a new doctor, and she says I can trust her, and that she’ll help me see the truth of who I really am.
When she arrived she brought a new patient, Sawyer, who is everything Spindle Ridge isn’t: exciting, mysterious and beautiful. He promises he’s here to rescue me. Trusting either of them frightens me.
Could it be possible that my dreams are more than just the imaginings of a delusional girl? Could they be truth?
This ain’t your momma’s fairytale. Slumber is Sleeping Beauty Grimm style with a Sloat twist. Never have I read a tale quite like this one.
The main character, Rory, is phenomenal. Her character grows and strengthens through the story like the birth of a butterfly. She is weak and closed off in the beginning, but in remembering her “Before” she is able to blossom. I look forward to seeing her in the next book.
If you have followed the writing career of Christy Sloat, then like me you have had the pleasure of seeing her grow into a brilliant writer. Her new YA fantasy is a testament to that. Sloat weaves us a beautiful tale of magic, fairies, and not so happily ever afters in Slumber. This book is sure to be a hit with her fans.
Cheree's 5 Star Review
An amazing twist on a favorite fairy tale for the ages! I absolutely adored this book and the whole layout and setting of this story. Rory is brought to Spindle Ridge Asylum for the Criminally Insane after killing her boyfriend Phillip, though she doesn't remember anything before coming to Spindle Ridge. She doesn't remember killing her boyfriend, she doesn't even remember him! But she must have done it, her hands were covered in blood and they say she did it, so she must be guilty. As Rory spends her days wasting away and trying desperately to remember, strange dreams start to give her a beautiful escape, but they feel so real! And then she meets Sawyer, another patient at Spindle Ridge. Sawyer starts to give her hope and moments of joy she thought she would never feel again. Then things start to change and the truth starts to reveal itself.
Get lost in this delicately woven thread of lies and deceit all in the name of revenge. But love always wins in the end...right? Or is it love that destroys us?
A Review of The Thorne Trilogy by RK Ryals
3/12/2015
By now most of you know I am slightly obsessed with R.K. Ryals.  I only spotlight her on here like all time.  She is the nicest person.  When I message her she always responds with a voice message reply and signs off with her signature "massive hugs & love."  And yes, I still squeal like a giddy school girl every time  i listen to one!  I hope you guys enjoy this installment of Ryals Tales!
(To purchase click on the book covers above)
The Thorne Trilogy by RK Ryals
 The Thorne Trilogy, a spin off from the Redemption Series, follows the curse of the Ayers witches, namely Monroe.  Like the series before it, The Thorne Trilogy is intense and action packed.  It differs in that is it edgier, darker and sexier.  A lot of the characters you met in The Redemption Series are in this series as well; such as Luther, the half demon son of Lillith and Cain, and Lucas, the Fallen Angel.
Cursed, Book 1
Cursed gives the reader insight into Monroe’s legacy.  We discover why the Ayers family of witches is cursed and connected to demons.
Paired with the unlikely savior, Luther Craig, Monroe is faced with hard, life changing decisions in order to save her family.  No matter her choice, bridges will be burned and lives will be changed forever. Cursed is fast paced, insightful start to this series.
 Monroe is one of my favorite characters and she shines in the series.  She is spunky, brave and smart.  Monroe would and does sacrifice everything for her family.  I found her to be a very admirable character.  Luther is so sultry and smoking hot.  Sometimes you cannot help but to love the bad guy.
Possessed, Book 2
Monroe Jacobs is BAD ASS.  She is my favorite character.  Monroe is feisty, strong and sarcastic.  If she thinks it, she says it.  I love that.
Luther Craig is the bad boy you can’t help but love.  You are drawn to him even on paper.  Luther takes sexy half demon to a whole new level.
With Monroe and Luther as a team, Hell had better look out.  In Possessed, Monroe comes into her own by tapping into her past and her ancestry. Turns out she is as much of a bad ass as Luther.  With the two of them teaming up to over throw Lilith the Kingdoms of Hell better watch their backs.
One of my favorite parts of this story is when Monroe goes into the visions of her ancestors to discover why the Ayers witches are cursed and to gain knowledge from them.  In each of her past lives she has always been a strong and decisive woman.  I love her.
Dancing With The Devil, Book 3
In the final book of The Thorne Trilogy, we meet the seven deadly sins who just happen to be Princes in Hell.  When the demon of lust sets his sights on Monroe it’s an all out war in Hell and on Earth.
Monroe has fully come into her powers and with Luther there to guide her, the two just may be unstoppable.  They love as fiercely as they fight.
This was my favorite in the series.  Somehow RK Ryals makes Hell the sexiest place on earth.  There is nothing tame about these characters.  Dancing With The Devil is hot, lustful, dark and dangerous.  Ryals makes being bad look good.
"Books carried me through my childhood. They carried me through cold nights and hot days, through hunger and fear. I grew up under the poverty level, and my family spent a lot of time telling each other stories to pass the time. I was awkward, clumsy, and different. I was quiet and bookish. I had the same problems as all teenagers. I often felt inadequate and insecure. I was bullied quite frequently. Words carried me. They gave me wings and helped me fly. They brought me through grief and despair, through the death of both of my parents and through the journey that came afterward. With time came knowledge and acceptance, and my love for words grew. Stories mean different things to different people. I tell stories because, through them, I grow as a person and as a writer. Remember, life isn't always easy. There are never guarantees, and we are all different for a reason. Embrace your awkward. Be unique. Change your fairytale. Because what makes you different makes you beautiful."
Title: Sons of Judgment
Author: Airicka Phoenix
Genre: NA Paranormal
Hosted by: Lady Amber's Tours
Blurb:
No good deed goes unpunished. Riley Masters learns this the hard way when she finds a wallet and decides to do the right thing. But returning it will cost her much more than she bargains for. Abandoned by her mother, raised by an indifferent father, Riley has accepted the fact that she would be alone always. She has no idea that a single act of kindness would propel her into a world where creatures that shouldn’t exist guard the human race from the demons that lurk in the shadows. That it will cost her the lives of those she loves while unearthing a destiny she never imagined with a man who is forbidden to love her. She finds passion, romance and the family she’d been searching for her entire life, but at what cost and what is she willing to sacrifice to find answers and happiness? Octavian Maxwell has always known his place. He is a Caster, a Son of Judgment. His job is to protect the mortal world from the creatures plotting to destroy it. Instead, his world is shattered when a human girl walks into Final Judgment, a girl he has been searching for his entire life, a girl he is forbidden to ever touch. Being with her will break the oath he’s sworn to never love a mortal. But his heart has already found its mate and it refuses to let go. Final Judgment… a place undetected, a gateway to evil and a legend that will undo everything anyone has ever known about our world.
Blurb: His love will become her curse. For centuries, Gideon has kept his secret, knowing that it could mean the life of the woman whose very heartbeat was his reason for living. But when Veil Creatures are slaughtered in their homes by those sworn to protect them, it may be up to him to save those he loves from a fate worse than death. What he doesn’t expect is the betrayal and a choice that could leave his family devastated. Valkyrie Devereaux believes only in the power of justice, loyalty and obeying the laws of her people. Love was something to be feared and she had been taught long ago that anything that could make you weak, needed to be eliminated. But when she is assigned to join the Casters of the north in hunting down the creatures killing the innocent, even she can’t help the twang of longing for something that goes against everything she was raised to believe was wrong. Like fire and gasoline, passions collide. Heat erupts as they fight against their desires and their very nature. But a fire like theirs can never be smothered. It can never be stopped. It can only burn to unimaginable heights, but what happens when it careens out of control and destroys everything around them? And who is waiting for that exact moment to destroy the brothers? She will become his death.
Airicka Phoenix lives in a world where unicorns, fairies and mermaids run amok through her home on a daily basis. When she’s not chasing after pixies and rounding up imps, also known as her four children, she can be found conjuring up evil villains, bad-ass heroines and swoon-worthy heroes to play with. Airicka is singlehandedly responsible for her greatly anticipated collections, The Touch Saga, The Lost Girl Duology, The Regeneration Series, Games of Fire & Betraying Innocence. The Resistance
All it takes is a spark…
Blythe Sol never would have thought she would become the face of the Restoration Resistance. Yet, that is just what has happened now that the battle lines have been drawn. With the movement sweeping the United States, the stakes are higher than ever as President Drummond continues to prove his dedication to the destruction of the Bionics and all who stand with them.
The flame has been ignited…
As anger and frustration among the American people reaches the boiling point, citizens begin to fight back, many showing their support for the Bionics… despite the personal costs to themselves. As protests turn violent, and people who once cowered in silence begin to fight back, the government continues its practices that fly in the face of the very principles the nation was founded upon.
The time has come to revolt …
Despite the many losses it has sustained, the Resistance stands strong, leading America into revolution and onward toward change. With an unlikely, ragtag family of misfits at its forefront, the Resistance stands, while a girl who lost everything continues to fight for a future that was once impossible, but may now be within her reach.
Cheree's 5 Star Review
What an amazing and intense book! My emotions were everywhere reading this! I had to excuse myself from the room to go have a few good cries of sadness and was shouting out "YES!" and "I KNEW IT!" quite a few times as well. Action packed and very relateable in a political way any freedom loving American can relate too. All of the characters are wonderful to read, and as much as you are excited to get to the next character, it is hard to leave the current viewpoint, they are just that loveable. Just like Bionics, book 1 in this series, Resistance follows 3 of the main characters in each of the three sections as the story moves along. Amazing and thought out history of the plot and scenarios. And almost scary believable in the power hungry and control seeking politicians and leaders in this series. To say never a dull moment is the understatement of the year! If you enjoy a great action packed, well thought out, heart racing Dystopian book with a lot of badass characters, then look no further!
excerpt
“I am not getting coffee with you.”
Quill scowled. “Why not?”
“Why not?” She laughed.
“Yeah. Why not. You don’t like coffee?”
Cori was sure he didn’t have a clue why she was turning him down. In fact, she kind of wanted to accept his invitation, but when she looked at his confused expression, it just made it worse. “Maybe because I saw you and your girlfriend last night in the hall.”
“She isn’t my girlfriend.”
“You know that doesn’t really help your case.”
He frowned. “Yeah I guess it doesn’t”
Cori bent down to collect her music folder.
“You know you shouldn’t be so high and mighty. You were the rocker chick dressed in a skirt so short she gave the front row pussy shots all night, but apparently you have a set of higher morals when it comes to drinking coffee.”
“I was not giving pussy shots. Whatever the hell that is. And even if I was, it’s different than sticking something in a pussy.” She crossed her arms over her chest.
“You afraid?” His cocky tone was back.
“Of your herpes ass? I don’t think so.”
Quill suppressed a laugh. “I don’t think you can get herpes on your ass.”
“I wouldn’t know.”
“Nor would I. Coffee?” He tried again. “You can’t get herpes from coffee.” Quill’s gaze dropped to her hands.
Lynn ~ 4 Stars
Fans of Stacey Rourke need not fear her journey in to New Adult Contemporary Romance genre because this book is classic Rourke. The witty, snarky commentary that Rourke is known for is definitely present. Whether she is writing a fight scene in the Gryphon Series, a murder by the horseman, or expressing one’s true love in a butterfly garden; Rourke’s wit and charm shines through
Cheree ~ 5 Stars
A contemporary romance with a heavy dose of comedy! Or is it a comedy with a heavy dose of contemporary romance? I laughed my butt off reading this book! I normally read post apoc or paranormal type books, I do love an occasional romance, but it’s a hard transition sometimes, and this was just what I needed. Aubrey Evans is a published author who’s book is hitting the big screen. We follow Aubrey and her BFF Tandy as they fly to LA for the filming. The friends have an enviable relationship, their back and forth banter was hilarious and refreshing.
This is a love story that we would all like to be ours. Your dreams coming true, two gorgeous men pining after you and one of them just happens to be the heartthrob of heartthrobs! And through her hysterical choices and mistakes, Aubrey ends up right where she should be. Don’t be fooled tho, there is no love triangle or whiney broken heart scenes in this book. But you can’t help but find yourself cheering for both men at times, even if your heart knows who is right. I loved the way everything comes together at the end, but was not ready to be done with the characters. You know it’s a win when it’s over and you’re just so disappointed to not be able to keep up with the future of the characters you’ve grown attached to. A great light hearted read that inspires hope for love when you are so sure it’s just not in the stars.
Aubrey Evans is living every author’s dream; her sizzling romance novel is being turned into a blockbuster film. She would be celebrating this momentous event, if she wasn’t busy fighting over every tiny production detail with the maddeningly cavalier director, Kole Camden.
When news of their heated rivalry hits the gossip columns, drastic measures must be taken to save their sinking project. In an elaborate PR hoax, she is publicly linked to Greyson Meyers, the swoon-worthy star of her movie. A whirl-wind love affair is staged for the couple to mirror the steamy chapters of her own books.
Can the introverted author resist the charms of Hollywood’s sexiest leading man? Or will love find her in the City of Angels?
If you are looking for a light-hearted, funny read to indulge in poolside, look no further!
Wicked Reads had this to say about Adapted for Film, "Having been a fan of Mrs. Rourke's YA novels for awhile now, I was very nervous to hear of her newest book. A romantic comedy? No, this would not work! I was 100% wrong. This book was filled with everything I love about her other series; quick wit and characters that you can relate to ... From start to finish I was enthralled in the story. I literally could not put it down and read it in a matter of hours."
Meet the Dream Cast!
Eye candy not enough? Still need more convincing on why you need to pick up this book TODAY? How about a sneak peek between the covers with an excerpt?
“I think I get it. If a butterfly were to land on you, its touch would be so delicate that you would wonder if it had really happened at all, or if it was merely your mind fantasizing that such a rare beauty would honor you with the gift of their touch.”
A gorgeous man uttering such poetry temporarily short circuited my brain. Catching myself doing the slack-jawed fan-girl thing, I quickly snapped my mouth shut and averted my gaze to a nonthreatening cement turtle by the edge of the gazebo.
“Yep,” I muttered to the turtle. “I think you’ve got it.”
Unfortunately for my last remaining shred of dignity, Greyson wasn’t done with his tutorial. He closed the distance between us with a burning hunger blazing in his eyes. A hot flush rose in my cheeks, creeping clear up to my earlobes as his sculpted body skimmed against mine. Toned, rigid perfection only a few thin layers of fabric away …
“What are you doing?” My voice failed me, coming out in a raspy yelp.
“Making sure I’ve got this right.” Temptation, of the most carnal variety, emanated off of him. His focused gaze followed the curve of my lips, the lift of one brow promising toe-curling fun.
It had been a really long time since someone had looked at me like that. Much less one of the sexiest men on the planet. That almost never happened.
“Aiden wouldn’t grab Paige, wouldn’t pull her to him.” Raising one hand, he traced the length of my arm with two fingers.
Starting at my wrist, he worked his way up. His skin never actually made contact, but whispered over mine in an electrifying rush that rolled and built. Bowing his head, his silky locks tickled my cheek. Hot breath teased over my collarbone, awakening a need so powerful my hands curled into tight fists at my sides. Agonizingly slow, he raised his head. The blissful torment of his lips teased over mine, setting the veil of energy between us alive with desire.
“He wouldn’t want to crush her lips with his need,” he murmured against my mouth, “but would wait … patiently for her to close that last … remaining … space.”
Losing Her
By Mariah Dietz
Published: February 27, 2015
“I loved her and she left. Maybe I wasn’t enough. Maybe I’ll never be enough.” I’ve been thinking these words since before we even got together.
Everything is new. The old no longer has a place here. Physical items are easy to replace. I'm constantly battling the ones that aren't.
Every thought and memory I have is stained.
By you.
You weren't even there for half of them.
How is she still present even though she left?
I can do this. I’m going to survive losing her.
Title: Touch Screen
Series: Sensations Collection #4
Author: L.B. Dunbar
Genre: Adult, Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 3, 2015
The prodigal son. A second chance. The long kept secret.
Home?
I had returned. I hadn’t been here for seven years. That last summer, I was angry. Once I got away, I didn’t want to come back. The irony was the career I sought to escape this small town was the very reason I was here. My first movie was a featured film of the Traverse City Film Festival. As an independent film director, my premiere brought me back home. Home. A place I didn’t recognize.
Or maybe home didn’t recognize me?
I had it all in California: a girlfriend who was the daughter of a movie financier, a job that led to connections in the film industry, and a condo overlooking the ocean in Malibu. What I didn’t have was family. I had left them all behind. I was the prodigal son.
Now, the last person I expected to see was her. Britton McKay. She had been my summer love as a teenager. Not just once, but several summers. Until the last one. That was seven years ago. Now, she looked more beautiful than I remembered. Seeing her again, flooded me with memories long suppressed. She reminded me of everything I once had, and left behind.
Now, she had returned too.
Can lost romance be rekindled? Can unanswered questions be revealed?
Can I make this place my home again?
    I felt drawn to this woman and child, and I exited one of the French doors to walk along the pathway under another canopy. The beauty and her boy did not seem to notice me, and I tried to stay behind the columns that supported the overhang providing shade to this portion of the sidewalk as I peered nonchalantly at the beach. I glanced in their direction enough to notice wisps of her blonde hair around her tan face blowing out of her ponytail. She kept her eyes downward, focused on the boy, but I realized they had the same nose. Again, it seemed safe to assume this was her child.
    She dipped the boy again and I heard his strong childish laughter. It was infectious and I smiled to myself. The woman kissed the boy again with several small pecks on his little red cheeks and neck, only now I could hear the sounds the mother made, loud and exaggerated, with each brush of her lips. The boy laughed harder, saying, “No, no, no,” but he squealed his enjoyment of each kiss and clearly wanted more. She stood him upright again and the child wrapped his arm around his mother, beginning to dance.
    “Again,” the child pleaded, but the mother directed him elsewhere. They held hands as they stepped off the dance floor and into the white sand surrounding the pavilion. I hadn’t noticed they were both barefoot, and the woman bent down to pick up two pairs of shoes. She handed the child his and carried hers through her fingers. There was something strangely familiar about her as she walked across the sand away from me and toward the water line of the lake.
    I stood straighter now, no longer leaning behind the barrier. I took no more notice of how much warmer I was outside in the blazing morning sun in my gray summer suit as I took a step into the sand, forgetting my leather dress shoes. The woman turned toward the child, walking backwards. Her tan legs were graceful beneath her white shorts. This blonde beauty shielded her eyes as if looking at something behind me, then she suddenly stopped walking. The child broke free of her hand and started running across the freshly combed beach toward the lake’s small white caps.
    I made my way to the dance floor, the sand slipping under the hard soles of my dress shoes. I balanced on the edge of the cement structure with my heel and kept my gaze focused on her as she continued to stare back at the resort. Slowly, she lowered her hand from her eyes and tucked a piece of wayward hair behind her ears. I realized she was no longer looking behind me, but at me. The way she tucked her hair behind her ear made her instantly recognizable. Britton. Britton McKay had returned to northern Michigan, just as I had.
      I’d like to say I was always a writer. I’d also like to say that I wrote every day of my life since a child. That I took the teaching advice I give my former students because writing every day improves your writing. I’d like to say I have my ten-thousand hours that makes me a proficient writer. But I can’t say any of those things. I did dream of writing the “Great American Novel” until one day a friend said: Why does it have to be great? Why can’t it just be good and tell a story?
      As a teenager, I wrote your typical love-angst poetry that did occasionally win me an award and honor me with addressing my senior high school class at our Baccalaureate Mass. I didn’t keep a journal because I was too afraid my mom would find it in the mattress where I kept my copy of Judy Blume’s Forever that I wasn’t allowed to read as a twelve year old.
      I can say that books have been my life. I’m a reader. I loved to read the day I discovered “The Three Bears” as a first grader, and ever since then, the written word has been my friend. Books were an escape for me. An adventure to the unknown. A love affair I’d never know. I could be lost for hours in a book.
      So why writing now? I had a story to tell. It haunted me from the moment I decided if I just wrote it down it would go away. But it didn’t. Three years after writing the first draft, a sign (yes, I believe in them) told me to fix up that draft and work the process to have it published. That’s what I did. But one story let to another, and another, and another. Then a new idea came into my head and a new storyline was created.
      I was accused (that’s the correct word) of having an overactive imagination as a child, as if that was a bad thing. I’ve also been accused of having the personality of a Jack Russell terrier, full of energy, unable to relax, and always one step ahead. What can I say other than I have stories to tell and I think you’ll like them. If you don’t, that’s okay. We all have our book boyfriends. We all have our favorites. Whatever you do, though, take time for yourself and read a book.
