At seventeen, Olivia Evans has her life mapped out. Work two part-time jobs, study hard during her senior year, and save enough money to get her own place. There's no room in that plan for romance. If watching her mother's serial relationship disasters taught her anything, it's that getting attached to a man is a waste of time and a recipe for heartbreak.

When she meets nineteen-year-old street racer Logan Tanner, a guy as unique and compelling as the '69 Mustang that purrs under his mechanic's hands, her heart beats wildly against the walls she's built around it.

From the moment the notorious playboy's intense, hazel eyes lock with hers, everything in her world slides off-kilter. With every encounter, every touch, and finally, every kiss, Logan slips past all her defenses.

But the moment she stops running from the inevitable, every reason she'd resolved to hold men at arm's length comes crashing down around her in an emotional, complicated--even dangerous--mess. Leaving her to decide if love is worth the hassle, or worth fighting for.

This page-turning, New Adult, stand-alone romance may best be described as One Tree Hill meets The Fast and the Furious. Expect action, drama, angst, love, passion, and more.

I liked it!

As soon as you think you have it figured out there is a twist thrown at you. Liv has dealt with so much loss, will she ever let anyone in? There were parts in this story where I really didn't like her, she seemed selfish and she sabotaged every chance at being happy. Will her broken heart ever heal?

On their thirteenth dig, Midnight, Echo's twin sister, disappears without a trace. This prompts a year-long search that leaves the family nearly broken.
In an attempt to find some closure they reluctantly host a mock funeral for Midnight without ever recovering her remains.
Nearing the one year anniversary of Midnight's assumed death, Echo is sent to live with her eccentric Aunt Luna who is the caretaker of the centuries old Navarri Estate in Port Royal, Maine.
Echo attempts to settle into her new life in Port Royal, but soon finds that she's destined for adventure as the mystery of her family's history, the sunless town, and its oddly intriguing people teeter on the supernatural

~~~My Review~~~
13 Ways To Midnight (The Midnight Saga, #1)13 Ways To Midnight by Rue Volley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
OMG. I need book 2 STAT! This is the first book I have read by Rue Volley. Why has it taken me so long to discover her greatness? I loved 13 Ways to Midnight.
First let's talk about the cover; it's very badass and mysterious looking. I was drawn to the cover. I think it sets the tone of the whole story perfectly. 13 Ways to Midnight has everything that a YA Paranormal Romance needs. Awkward teen girl ✔ Hot Vampire love interest ✔ Witchy best friends ✔ The town of Port Royal is made up of some very interesting charcters. I could tell you so much, but alas...spoilers.
I will say this, 13 Ways to Midnight is not just a story of romance. It is about family, loss, friendships, and discovering how one fits into all those things.
Lastly, it ends with a cliffhanger. An OMG, no you didnt, I can't even, cliffhanger!
Title: Love Edy Series
Author: Shewanda Pugh
Genre: YA/NA Romance
Cover Designer: Regina Wamba
Editor: Stephanie Dagg
Publisher: Razor's Edge
Hosted by: Lady Amber's Reviews & PR
Blurb: When Edy Phelps falls hard for her best friend, she knows nothing can come from it. Forget actual chemistry, or the fact that she cherishes his mother more than her own; centuries of tradition say that Hassan will grow up, marry the girl his parents pick, and forget his best friend: the dancer with the bursting smile. Except he can't. In a world erupting with possibilities for the boy with a body of steel and dreams of the NFL, everything seems promised while nothing at all is; when he's denied the girl he wants most.
Two hearts. Two families devoted through generations of friendship. Could Edy and Hassan really risk all that? And yet ... how could they not?
Blurb:
In the aftermath of one tragic and uncertain night, Edy and Hassan shut out the chaos with a kiss. But when Hassan's traditionalist mother sees that kiss … well, a nightmare of a different sort begins. After all, he still has an arranged marriage on the horizon.
Love attacks the glue of their two bonded families; while the slow tug of success pulls Edy and Hassan in opposite directions. After denying their feelings for so long, they now have each other, but are forced to ask themselves if being together is worth it.
Blurb:
When Edy arrives at Louisiana State University, she soon discovers it takes more than talent to stay in her fellow dancers’ good graces. Meanwhile, Hassan’s status as a newbie freshman means that anytime not practicing is spent steering clear of pranks, cramming every play into his skull, and changing his mind again and again about whether to do that double major. Football, dance, and classes keep him and Edy apart more than together, and in the freedom of a thousand-mile distance from their parents, Edy discovers a wild, free spirit…one that doesn’t sit well with Hassan. But there’s a moody, unapologetic bad boy who likes it more than a little. He goes from irritating Edy to intriguing her. Oh, and yes, he’s a dancer. Finally, there’s Wyatt, in Baton Rouge without an explanation. Freshman year is ricocheting out of control fast as obligations and accusations take their toll. In a world like this, one wrong move is enough for everything Edy and Hassan have worked for to get wrecked.
Mason muscled the Land Rover over a bed of shrubs and into the street, knocking his passengers left then right with the hustle. Just as Matt yelled for him to head in the opposite direction, Lawrence demanded to know if he could possibly hurry up. Hassan's eyes kept to the street, desperate for a glimpse of a just-departed Edy.
He supposed to an outsider their panic looked silly. But none of them cared. Edy was one of them, and they didn't need her father to remind them.
"Why would she leave like that?" Mason said, halting at a red light and chewing on the side of his thumb.
"Maybe someone tried something," Lawrence said.
"Tried something?" Matt echoed.
Silence filled the cabin.
Hassan's face tightened, teeth sealing with the weight of wet cement. That image didn't work for him. It didn't work for him one friggin' bit.
"If someone had tried something, Edy would've come to one of us," Mason said.
Chloe, who sat wedged between Hassan and Lawrence in the center backseat, cleared her throat. "Maybe she didn't want to," she offered.
That had everyone's attention.
"And why wouldn't she want to?" Matt snapped.
"I don't know," Chloe said. "Maybe . . . if she liked it." She looked from one face to the next, each cold, hard, unappreciative.
"Maybe you oughta be quiet," Lawrence muttered and turned to face the window.
Hassan rode with the company of his thoughts, now violently intruded on by Chloe's assertion. Meanwhile, he kept dialing Edy's cell and it went to voicemail each time. Tension hung like a threat in the air.
"Who saw her last?" Mason demanded.
"Oh, don't start that again," Lawrence said. He turned to Hassan, eyed the cell in his hand. "Keep trying. Keep calling."
Hassan sighed. He pushed away a thousand crazy thoughts: that Lorenzo Carpenter had been lying to them, that Chloe had been telling the truth, that Chloe had been talking about Lorenzo when she told them the truth.
"We have to check her house," Mason said. "It's the only place left."
"Right," Matt sneered. "We just walk into her living room and ask Nathan if he's seen the daughter he left with us."
"Not us." Mason said. "Sawn."
"How?" Hassan said. He looked up from the phone.
"You've got a key," Matt pointed out. "Use it and walk up to her room."
"Like Nathan isn't up? Waiting?" Hassan said.
"Window," Lawrence said. "Climb up. Look in. See if she's there."
Her window. Their secret rendezvous place since Hassan had learned to climb trees at six. It was a decent idea. He could only hope that her father wasn't sitting on the bed, waiting for his now-late daughter.
They parked on the tail end of Hassan's street, Dunberry, behind a cluster of oaks and a stop sign. All four boys climbed out, hunched low, and scurried covertly to 2260, Edy's address, while Chloe waited behind in the car. On arrival, the Dyson brothers clustered around a sweeping, aged, and red-tipped chestnut, squinting upward as Hassan scaled it. They watched with a nervous eye for Edy's parents, or his, next door.
Hassan made it to the thick "V" of limbs that split half toward Edy's house, half toward his. He hoisted himself up, grabbed a gnarled branch for balance, and found a knot of familiar footing to stand on. A square of darkness stared back at him. He reached forward and yanked up Edy's window.
"Edy!" Hassan hissed. "You in there?"
Silence.
"Ed--"
She emerged from the shadows, hair in an oversized ponytail, pajamas ultra-pink and wrinkled, the epitome of a been-sleeping girl. Only, he knew better. She stared back at him, evenly, eyes wider in the night.
"What are you doing here?" he said. "Why aren't you answering your phone? We've been looking for you. We didn't know what to think."
"I'm here because I live here. You can go back to your party now."
"What? I can go back--" Hassan flared. "Why didn't you say you wanted to leave? Mason would've taken you. Or Matt. I would have walked you, if nothing else."
"I don't need anyone to take me. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm tired."
But he couldn't excuse her. Not like that. Her anger, whenever he earned it, sat with him, needling like a shoe that didn't quite fit.
"Cake?" he said uncertainly.
His name for her. It had always been his name for her. But she jerked as if the word itself burned.
He needed to do something. To fix whatever was happening. Only . . . he hadn't the faintest idea what was happening.
"Edy, please. If I did something, just tell me. "
She ran fingers along the sill. They were long, slender, curving beauties that had climbed trees with him, and been laced with his a thousand times.
He had an urge to make it a thousand and one.
"Good night, Hassan," Edy said.
She looked up at him with puffy eyes and closed the window between them.
"Night, Cake." He whispered it to darkness.
My grandfather had once told me that life was an unpredictable beast—one moment calm with a full belly and heavy eyes, and the next, digging its paws in the dirt, snarling just before it took down its next victim. Until recently, I would argue with that notion, listing all the reasons why my life was as predictable as the tides coming and going. While I listened, I was young and never put much thought into a lot of the things my grandfather told me, but all that changed when the Hunters moved back to Sandpoint. More specifically, Wes Hunter. That was when the impossible became possible and the predictable became unpredictable.
As Abigail Rose looked down on her new world, she couldn’t deny the things she had seen and all the things she had learned. There were days she wished she could go back to her old life, but she had changed. Evolved. She was no longer a love-struck seventeen year old. She was a chosen leader and her path was undeniable. The black and white was fading to gray, and the only thing between mortals and immortals was her.
Once the groceries were stored in their rightful places, Camilla handed him napkins and silverware. “Will you put them on the table? Then grab the salads from the fridge.”
As instructed, he moved to the dining room. “Nice flowers on the table. Who sent them?”
Jared called out.
“Let’s share a bottle of red wine tonight,” she hollered from the kitchen. “Pick your favorite from the rack. And you know where to find the glasses.”
Obviously, she hadn’t heard him.
“Wine is open,” he called out a few minutes later.
When she appeared in the doorway to the dining room, he poured dark liquid into both glasses and offered her one. They clinked their glasses together.
She sipped. “Hmmm, that’s nice. Dry and fruity.”
Taking the glass from her, he deposited it on the table. “About these flowers,” he said.
“There’s a card here.”
“Are you fishing for a compliment? You know who sent them.”
“Know?” Jared asked. She wanted to play a guessing game?
“Okay, I understand.” She stopped and made a slight bow. “Thank you, darlin’, for the flowers. I should’ve said that the minute I saw you, but you…sort of distracted me. They’re lovely, and I adore you.” After blowing a kiss in his direction, she went to the stove where she placed sliced bread on a plate with a small dish of butter. “Take this, please. I’ll ladle up the gumbo.”
“Honey, I love you bunches, but I didn’t send the flowers. I bought you a gift, but it’s still in my truck.”
A serious expression clouded her face. “Listen. Things happen in the Triangle that no one can explain or define. But don’t think everything will fix itself when the cruise is over. Any day on this ship can become your new reality. I can’t tell you how it works, but I wish I could. You need to find these answers on your own.” The intensity of her green eyes burned into me. I almost recoiled to protect myself from her words. “Remember what I’m telling you. Any changes that happen here can become your real life back home. Keep that in mind as you work on figuring things out.”
I shuddered. “I have a question for you. How come I’m the only one noticing that things are not normal or real? Why don’t my friends realize things are different? And what did I do to deserve this?” I sucked in a breath. “I mean, I’ve been a good student, I don’t drink or do drugs or steal, I do what my family expects of me.” I sighed. “I know people who are so much more deserving of some curse than me. What’s the deal?” I hated to sound so conceited, but I wasn’t a bad teenager. I wasn’t a perfect angel, but I did my best.
So why me?
She looked at me. “Right there, honey, could be your problem. Really, who are you to judge? You don’t know what others are going through, just like they don’t know what you’re going through. Everyone has issues no matter how perfect they—and you—think they are.”
I held my hands up. “I never said I was perfect. I just said I was good. I’m no angel, Doc. But I’m not a druggie or a killer or an animal abuser. I don’t kick puppies or steal junk from the mall. So what’s the deal? This is really because of the Bermuda Triangle?”
She nodded. “Luck of the draw, Carly. That’s all I can tell you. And maybe, it’s a little more than luck … like someone knows you need the help. As for your friends, some people change with the changes, some notice weird things, like you, and some experience nothing out of the ordinary while on this cruise. I’m sorry, honey. I wish I could tell you more. But you have to deal. That will help.”
Was she serious? “No, I figured I’d just not deal and go crazy, thank you very much.” The words were sharp as I spewed them at her. I blew out a breath and slumped my shoulders. “I’m sorry again. I don’t mean to be grumpy or direct it at you. I’m just going nuts here and have no idea what to do.”
“Relax. It’s easy and hopefully this will not be permanent. No drinking, smoking, drugs. Drink plenty of fluids. Eat right. That’s good advice for everyone. Otherwise, try to learn something from all you’re going through, okay? That’s the ticket to your way back to normalcy.”
I grimaced. “Yeah. Thanks for the tips. Not sure how much they’ll help, but thanks.”
She chuckled. “Go and have fun while you’re here. But think about your life, past and present, and where you’re headed. Think about where you’ve been, and what you want to do. And if you solve the mystery of the Triangle, stop in and let me know, okay? I need answers just as much as you do.”
I nodded. “You have no idea about how this all works?”
“I know some, but that’s all I can say. You have to figure the rest out on your own.” Knowledge lit up her eyes, so she knew more than she was telling. She couldn’t throw me a bone?
“Gee, thanks, Doc. I guess I have no choice, huh?”
Now that she's lost him too, there's nothing left for her but a mission - a cause she's truly come to believe in. With one of Hell's most notorious demons - Lilith, mother of legions - after her, she can't afford to let her personal life become a distraction.
As the war with Hell continues, Jack Bennett fights to get himself back in the game. Little does he know that returning home will only complicate matters, as nothing can ever be the same between him and the two people he cares for most in the world: his best friend, and the love of his life.
Micah Boudreaux never thought he would get stuck babysitting "the chosen one" all by himself, but without his partner, Jack, in the picture, he isn't left with much of a choice. The fact that she's a demon half-breed only reminds him of all he's lost to the side of Evil. Yet, hating her becomes difficult, as he's forced to work alongside her on a mission he's spent seven years trying to complete. He never counted on Addison stoking feelings in him that have lain dormant for so long.
It's wrong to want her. She's his best friend's girl, and has the blood of demons running through her veins. Yet, despite all of it, the demon-hunter with a complicated past will dare to hope for more. Even though life has never given him much, he will dare to hope for love...even in the midst of a dark world and a conflict he sees as unwinnable.
~~~Review~~~

"Henry McNulty leaves me breathless."
Overall 5 STARS
Performance  5 STARS
Story  5 STARS

What made the experience of listening to The Seal the most enjoyable?Beside the amazing writing by Elise Marion, the narrator, Henry McNulty, is absolutely the best i have ever heard. Henry could read the ingredients on the cereal box and leave me panting for more. His sultry voice is so languid I could just float away.

Who was your favorite character and why?My favorite character is Micha. Beneath the tough facade beats the heart of a gentle giant. I long to fix him and take away his pain. The fact that he is built like Thor doesn't hurt matters in the least.

Which character – as performed by Henry McNulty – was your favorite?Again I have to say Micha, Henry nails that Cajun French accent beautifully.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?Definitely. Henry McNulty brought this book to life and played it out in front of me. I was sucked in from page one.

Any additional comments?The heartbreak, lust, and the need for revenge are palpable while listening to Henry McNulty narrate Elise Marion's The Seal. Having left me with one hell of a cliffhanger in the previous book, The Guardians, I was salivating for more.

Can I take a moment to appreciate the Fantastic specimen that is Micah? Lord have mercy! Write me in as a character and let me heal his broken soul.

The narration brought this action and fast-paced storyline to life. The connection I felt towards Addison and Micah was real. Their pain burned into me. I can't even.

Once again Elise Marion has left me with one heck of a cliffhanger and waiting in limbo for book 3.

Review Of Fractured Reflections by Lucian Barnes

The wait is over and I am so excited to share this book and my review with you.  If you haven't read anything by Lucian Barnes before, this is a fantastic introduction to his wicked and twisted mind.  Enjoy!

Fractured ReflectionsFractured Reflections by Lucian Barnes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fractured Reflections is a collection of nine short stories created from the twisted and sadistic mind of Lucian Barnes. The common theme among these short stories is that each character seems to have a flaw that is revealed thus showing his/hers fractured reflection.

Fans of his Desolace series will be excited to return to Misty Hollows and the home of serial killer, George Mancini. If you are a fan of the classic Twilight Zone and Tales from the Crypt, you will definitely find a few tales reminiscent of those shows. This eclectic collection has haunted houses, zombies, a cursed typewriter, and much more. Read at your own risk!

Write of Passage is one of my favorite stories in this collection. Fans of the Desolace series will love returning to Misty Hollows’ home of the serial killer dubbed the Headhunter. This terrifying tale proves that evil never dies.

2. Hallucinogenic Properties
The old adage do unto others would have served Fred well in the violent tale of Hallucinogenic Properties. He definitely reaps what he has sown.

3. Weight of the World
This one is sure to give you nightmares! Weight of the World has a Stephen King feel to it. It’s a dark and twisted short about a cursed typewriter. Every writer’s nightmare comes true.

4. Griselda & The Seven Gnomes
Griselda & the Seven Gnomes is a Grimm retelling of Snow White with an unexpected twist only Lucian Barnes can deliver. It is definitely one of my favorites in this collection. Parents, you will not be reading this one while tucking in the kiddos.

5. O.C.D. (Ocular Culinary Device)
O.C.D is straight out of the Twilight Zone. The futuristic ocular culinary device is all the rage and a must have by housewife, Linda. O.C.D. proves the adage that if something is too good to be true then it probably is.

6. The Perfect Bite
The Perfect Bite is by far the most bizarre stories in Fractured Reflections. It has a Tales from Crypt vibe to it.

7. Too Good To Be True
Remember the movie House on Haunted Hill? Too Good To Be True has that same vibe. The ghosts of this old dilapidated farm house definitely do not bring out the warm and fuzzies. Read this one with the lights on!

8. Be Prepared
If Be Prepared teaches us anything it is that there is something to be said about being an introvert during a zombie apocalypse. Had Bill not craved human interaction, he and Kathy would have been much better off.

9. The Devil’s Hour
The Devil’s Hour is one of my top three favorite stories in Fractured Reflections. While the hotel and character are fictional, the author does say in the introduction that the inspiration for this tale came from his stay at the infamous Stanley Hotel. Having said that, this is not a retelling of The Shining. Far from it, in fact. Even Stephen King is not this twisted

There are certain situations in nearly every individual's life that trigger an emotional response. Fear is often one of the most difficult to deal with—whether it's mankind's atrocities toward one another, or something which goes bump in the night, forcing a person to admit that monsters are indeed real. Surely one or more of the nine tales contained herein will leave its mark on you. Journey forth, if you dare, into the nightmare-inducing mind of the author, but be warned ... the Fractured Reflections you see within the mirror may have their own agenda!

I spent most of my youth in rural Ohio and began writing stories at an early age. Many of these early attempts at story-telling were inspired by mysteries, such as those found in the old Hardy Boys books and the cartoon antics of Scooby Doo. As I entered my teenage years I began to drift away from writing stories, instead picking up my pencil to compose lyrics for heavy metal songs because my new dream was to become a musician. That vision remained hopeful for many years after my high school graduation, but like most dreams of this nature it died out as I became older.

After working several menial jobs through the years that followed, my thoughts again began to turn toward writing books. Inspired by my favorite author, Stephen King, I took an online creative writing course and slowly began to develop my skills. In late 2010 I was given a violent shove, both by the job market (which was horrible to say the least, and still is) and by the persistent encouragement of close friends, to pick up my pen and begin writing again.

In early 2012, I gave birth (that's almost what it felt like) to my very first published book, Desolace. Finally having a completed novel in my hand was the best feeling in the world for me, giving me a sense of accomplishment I had waited a lifetime for. Since then it has gotten easier for me with each book I have published. Since the initial release of Desolace, I have published nine more novels as well as an omnibus edition ebook of the entire Desolace series. My next book, a collection of short stories called Fractured Reflections, is scheduled for release in February 2017.
