A Piper's Song is the first retelling of the Pied Piper fairytale that I have come across, C.K. Johnson did a great job of putting her own twist on this tale. It definitely had a Grimm feel to it. But more than that it focused on family, sibling bonds and friendship. The author created complex, well defined characters. My favorite character was the MC, Kyra. Kyra went from an awkward teenager to living with her older brothers and trying to raise their younger siblings overnight. She has no choice but to grow up, try to focus on school and oh, deal with coming into her piper abilities.
A Piper's Song is a story of hope and rewriting a history of wrongs. I cannot wait to see how Kyra enacts her revenge in the next book.

When you control music, every note is a weapon.
Most girls don't think twice about singing along with their favorite song on
the radio. Not me. I hum once and it zombifies the hottest guy in school.
The Pied Piper was real and I am his descendant. Music is my curse.
If I don't master the song inside myself, it will overpower me, and
if that happens...Let's put it this way: the last piper to lose control
led a town-full of children to a river and started the plague.
Welcome to my life.
C.K. Johnson

She loves Star Wars, Dr. Who, and old fairy tales. She also loves chocolate and running (but only so she can enjoy more chocolate). Her passions include reading, writing and listening to an ever-growing list of music.
She lives in Utah with her yappy little dog, Lorelai, who reminders her of Toto from The Wizard of Oz.
